Euro 2028 Stadium Selection

Would be nice if the Riverside got a match or two, though I'm sure we'd be part of a long queue of English stadiums trying to get one.

The word 'city' appears a lot there. Like "don't even think about applying if you aren't one". Go for it, Ripon.
York City have a shiny new stadium and by then will have experience of hosting World Cup matches. Women’s Rugby League World Cup matches, including both semi-finals.

We might get a few warm up games hopefully, but for the Euros the grounds with the biggest capacity should be used with the demand you would expect

Yeah, I don't really expect us to get any, but there'll be more matches than ever, so there could be an outside chance, especially if they had one of the groups set in the North East.

Everyone of the 10 stadiums to be used in Euro24 (Germany) has a capacity of over 45,000. I struggle to see how Northern Ireland can be awarded any fixtures.

Don't think the Riverside will be used but would imagine a nation using the hotel and training facilities at Rockcliffe.
This would likely be the situation I would think. Nice base, hotel and top class training facilities out of the way will tick the box for one of the crack European teams.

North Macedonia versus Hungary in a group match would be fine in Belfast, as would a number of other potential group clashes.
If it is a UK & I joint bid then Belfast, Dublin, Cardiff and Glasgow should all get matches.
24 team tournament as in 2024 Germany, has 6 groups of 4, 36 matches, plus likely 16 knockout matches. There are only ten venues.

Should have a minimum number of matches at each participating stadium to make capital spending more worthwhile and ensure smooth operations.
The infrastructure around a host venue should be a key consideration.

Will Leeds have sorted Elland Rd out by then, or built a new stadium? Doubtful.
Have Sunderland or Middlesbrough the infrastructure?
Will anything ever happen in Sheffield?
Should anywhere but London have more than one stadium? Which one in Manchester, Liverpool, Glasgow, Dublin, Cardiff, Edinburgh.
Should London have more than 2 stadia involved, so Spurs or Arsenal?
Will any other club go for broke with their stadium? Bristol, Nottingham, Southampton?

I'd have thought Wembley, Arsenal/Spurs, Villa Park, Old Trafford/Etihad, Everton/Anfield and St James' are shoe ins, together with Dublin, Belfast, Millennium, Hampden.

Leaving some noses very much out of joint.

Surely they won't expand the Finals to 32 teams will they?
If so then that's another 12 group matches to share out, so perhaps more stadia then. Have to be some investment in Ireland to get more.
