Who's watching ? I must admit I hadn't even realised tonights match was the first qualifier until I just checked. I'll give it a watch but have to admit it's difficult to get excited about this one, it "should" just be an exercise in England getting a good goal difference*

*No offence intended to San Marino

To be honest, you should offend them. The worst international team in the world.

The lads are like lottery winners - if you've a leg to stand on you get the chance to play at Wembley, the Bernabeu, the Olympiastadion.

I'll be watching and am still excited for it.
Obviously England are going to win, and it should be by quite a few goals, but it's still an international.

Hoping we put out the strongest side possible, in the formation he's planning to use at the Euros, and try to score as many goals as possible.

imagine he will play 5 at the back and Dier / Rice in CM. I imagine 5 or 6 nil at the very least.

II doubt I'll watch it. I am kind of glad as I've been footballed to death this last few months. So an international break is also a 'football break' for us fans😂

Heard from my source that it's 4-3-3 tonight

Only by FIFAs rankings which is due to them playing European nations, in reality they’d beat some of the smaller nations from Oceania and other confederations quite comfortably.

But I take your point of course!

The whole qualifying will be a bore fest with us getting through no problem. The sooner Sir Gareth moves on (which I fear could be a while yet) the far better our chances of actually achieving something in the Euros or World Cup. There is a good team in there (Grealish, Foden etc.. ) somewhere if they can just employ a coach whose fit for purpose. We need to pull the trigger on Sir Gareth quickly or yet another generation of opportunity will pass us by!

Yeah, that is fair.

But there really should be a parsing out of these micro-nations. There is absolutely no point in them or Gibraltar. Let them have their pub league somewhere else.

Couldn’t agree more the Dutch performance the other night showed Southgate up for what he is as soon as we play any team capable of causing us problems he’s goosed

Why is there no point in them?
They get to try and qualify like everyone else, the fact they will likely lose is irrelevant.

They're not at the actual tournament, and likely never will be, but if they do make it they've earned the right to be there.

They do have their own little league too, it's Group D of the Nations League where plenty of the smaller countries of Europe compete, Gibraltar recently were promoted from it at the expense of San Marino and Liechtenstein.

The fact that they're small countries shouldn't prevent them from competing.
Iceland is a country with a population 156 times smaller than England's, they knocked us out of the Euros despite the odds.

Iceland is a country, Gibraltar is not. San Marino isn't one in any meaningful sense.

There is no way to scale up football in these 'countries'. Comparing them to Iceland is massive disservice to what the Iceland FA achieved through years of investment and effort.

Good luck to the San Marino lads, but they are little more than competition winners.

San Marino is a country in every single meaningful sense.
