I saw her win as well, didn't realise her parents were both English.
 
For the '66 WC, the official mascot was a lion wearing a Union Jack suit. The song that went with it was sung by a Glaswegian.

People just weren't as politically correct years ago. And, post-war there was maybe more sentiment for the Union.

I'm not sure it was anything to do with political correctness but the fracturing of the national sentiment was to come just over a decade later when the one nation Tory idea was replaced by the fractious policies of the Thatcher Tory government. Her idiot philosophies remain in place.
