Engels

Engel.

Pelvic issue when asked about him two weeks ago.

"But explaining how Engel's issue had been ongoing for much of the season, Carrick said: "He’s had a bit of a pelvic issue on and off for a little bit throughout pre-season. So we are just seeing what the issue is, if there is one, and we’ll get him back pretty soon.""

He was nursing a broken hand or something, but Carrick hasn't mentioned him as a player who is out injured. So maybe there is some truth in pulling him out the firing line for his own good.

Engel is a good left back.

It’s not fair to compare his performances in an unbalanced team where he was constantly left exposed with Borges at the moment now that that McGree is back.

Both are plenty good enough and both will play their part this season.
while carrying at least one injury as well as being our only fit senior left back.
the vitriol aimed at him during/after the Stoke game was awful.

Very odd. He's not even mentioned when asked about injuries. To the point I had almost forgot he wasn't available.

I wonder if we've taken him out of the firing line? The fact he's not even mentioned by Carrick suggests it may not be a simple as in injury. It could be a break for his mental health or that the press have been asked not to ask about him.

That said we are often very vague about injuries. The amount of times we here that something isn't serious or that a player is 'near' yet never see them for weeks or even months.

Engel would have got absolutely murdered last night.
This "McGree not leaving him exposed" is a smokescreen. Engel is just a poor player who couldn't deal with 1v1s well enough and made poor decisions.
Borges doesn't make those poor decisions so doesn't get caught in behind so often. He does exactly what we talked about a few weeks ago, he lets the opposition full back have it instead of flying out of position and then defends the 1v1 in the dangerous areas.

What was the game he was taken off?
Jesus. The poor lad looked like he wanted the ground to swallow him up.

But, then again, the fuc.king idiot has a lego tattoo on his leg. I cant help but think that things might be different for him if he hadn't had one of the worlds daftest tattoos done - Man City, who knows?

As much as I defend Engel's footballing ability... I will definitely agree with that specific criticism... His tattoos are rubbish.

Saw him walking through the West Stand concourse with Gilbert and Clarke on Saturday, the usual place for injured players on match day. Lenihan has a season ticket there now I think.
I believe Lenihan's slipped into Gestede's seat and will remain there for the rest of his contract. ;)

Regarding Engel, as @sherlock states, he was left exposed on too many occasions and gets pelters from fans because of this. I do feel he is a better crosser of the ball than our current left back and offers a lot going forward.

Reasons?

I thought he finished the season stongly tbh, and it was looking like he'd be our starting left back this season.
2 goals, 4 assists and 2 MOTM performances.. after being dropped right in at the deep end at the beginning of the season coming in from a completely different league.

He's played three league games this season WDL as our only fit left back he was playing with a broken wrist and a pelvic issue.
