Energy bills - don't pay

It was on FB.. had quite a few shares now but I can’t link just now..

It was more a warning that people are saying Martin Lewis recommended not to pay your bill when he actually hasn’t, a bit like the parking ticket issues…

I’m not doing any of it as although I think prices are way to high, I’m still able to pay..

Those that are struggling need help and all the info out there’s becoming a mine field…
Yeah seen it. Defo not a Martin Lewis comment 😂

The riots were factored in as these now declassified docs show. They were fully prepared for the riots it was back last in Tory shires that was the real issue.

The government had expected opposition to a measure specifically targeted at high-spending, mainly Labour-controlled, councils. What they hadn't expected was the reaction from their own supporters, as the April 1990 date for its introduction in England and Wales drew near.
In September the previous year her environment secretary, Chris Patten noted "a good deal of pressure developing" and Nigel Lawson, who was to resign as chancellor the following month, told Mrs Thatcher: "We are faced with a potentially difficult Parliamentary situation."
By January, Patten was telling her there could be as many as 83 rebel MPs on the Tory benches. And she got a powerful sense of the anger among formerly loyal Conservative voters in March when a constituent of the Norfolk MP Ralph Howell wrote to her.

And

Cabinet papers for 1989 and 1990, released today at the National Archives in Kew, reveal the reaction to the crisis at the heart of government. They show how involved the prime minister herself was.
And they pinpoint the moment it dawned on her that her flagship policy had turned into a political disaster which was hitting, not Labour local councils, but her natural supporters.

I've done it. Doing nothing won't change anything, and it's what they expect us to do. Waging a twitter war achieves f* ck all. Actions need to be taken. We've just sat back a sucked up that that frizzy haired sack of sh it can stay as a non functioning prime minister for a while because the people do nothing. We are weak and toothless and only doing something more radical will force these greedy profiteers blatently ripping us off.

I never said the cost of energy was directly due to Brexit. My point was the main reasons we have a Tory government and therefore no national ownership of our utilities is because of Brexit, the last election was dubbed the Brexit election remember. There was an alternative, If people had thought about what was really in their best interests, we could have national ownership of the utilities and some other key public services again and no hard Brexit.
I voted Labour at both elections and voted for brexit. Stop presuming you know people's reasons or what they do, it doesn't help. Constantly mentioning and blaming brexit makes people vote Conservative.

Like I said i'm not blaming Brexit for the energy prices. Vote leave was in 2016 and there was no plan or deal agreed on what and how leaving should look. Why do you think huge numbers of former labour voters, voted Conservative, in the 2019 get Brexit done election?

Agree. Electricity supply is not and never was a 'market', completely ridiculous concept. My understanding is that the wholesale cost of electricity into the 'market' is set at the level of the most expensive generator into the base grid load, currently gas fired power stations. If it was centrally run the price would be an average across all sources of generation, renewables, nuclear, etc., etc........
How on earth would that work? Everyone over the average would just refuse to sell in.

Your last sentence proves it is a market as you have competing generators all trying to sell in to the market.

People really need to understand that there is no legislative trick the government can pull to lower energy prices. In the short term they are going to have subsidise those on lower incomes. In the long term we are going to have to accelerate net zero.

Just had a look on my octopus account through their crystal ball tool and their prediction for my use in January 2023 is £900!!! That's based on what I used last January. I was previously paying £150 a month which left me in a decent amount of credit across the year. Where are people expected to find that from?
