Energy bill fatigue

I've switched off to the scaremongering for April projections and beyond. It's nonsense, they have no idea what will happen before that point, plus most households use less than 30pc of their year energy use in those mild and summer months. What's crazy is that in a few days time we will be told to pay 4 times the use rate for gas (prob 16 pp kWh) as at the same time last year (3.92 pp kWh ) Oct - Dec , at a point where we really do need it. I don't think any household can reduce their gas consumption to 25% of last years autumn use , just to equalise the costs.

In credit at the minute, and if no further price increases then it will balance out over the course of the year at £300 a month.
I think that's the danger for many, they will say they'll pay bill to bill rather than going into credit but when those big bills come in October and prices go up they may struggle to do so

Everyone hates on smart meters but never has it been more valuable to see your daily usage and understand your costs, likewise tracking down when things have been left on like immersion heaters as the display will show high usage

Thread on MSE last week where someone had an immersion heater on for a year since moving in, they were gutted. Just doing monthly reading doesn't show high use or anything like that.

Exactly this. Octopus tried to increase my direct debit further but we agreed at £300 as I roughly worked out what it would be on current cap (on last years usage) and what I can just about afford. I'd prefer to do it this way than receiving £500+ monthly bills in the winter. Not sure how people will manage if October rise goes ahead.
