Employment falls by biggest amount in over a decade

It is even worse than that, relatively speaking Alvez. Our economy has contracted by 21% in the last 2 quarters, which is to be expected, but if you compare that with the other G7 countries, the next closest is France with a contraction of just under 13%. Our economy is suffering much more than other economies. Of course you have to consider the length of a recession as well as it's depth, but with brexit round the corner you can't see us recovering any time soon.

I know mate it's really sad, for me personally I'm in a relatively secure role within the technology sector but I do worry for others... I've warned of this since lockdown was announced but now is not the time to be arrogant about that I just want to say it's down to every single one of us to take care of the people in our little circles.

I decided a month ago that I ought to support the economy by spending money on all the stuff I've been putting off. Added to which, spending so much time at home has opened my eyes to how tatty I've let the house become.

People who have money should spend it at the moment.

Alvez, whilst I agree, of course, that lockdown has had a huge impact on our economy, other countries with harder lockdowns have a much smaller impact on their economies. That may be brexit to blame for our larger contraction, but it does suggest that the lockdown was not managed as well as in other countries.

I, like you, work in the technology sector and for a company that is financially very secure and does not make people redundant, so will be OK, but yes I feel for the wider community we are all part of.

Irrespective of the reasons behind the recession, we are in a for a tough couple of years. Pushing ahead with a no-deal brexit is absolute insanity at the moment. As you say, we can put our arms round our families and friends, it's all we can do at the moment.

Feel like we have only seen a small preview of what is about to happen, if all this is happening whilst furlough is still an option for employers, how bad are things going to be when this is taken away. Especially if we end up going into another lockdown which looks fairly likely
