Electric car question.

I know that opinions are polarised on here but hear me out as this is a genuine question I would like informed opinions on.

Does anyone have two electric cars in the household?

Mrs has an electric and my diesel is going back soon.

Really tempted to go electric but don’t know anyone that has done it to see if it’s workable.

Mine would be purely a runabout… no long journeys

Me and the Mrs both have electric cars. She’s had hers longer than me. It’s a Corsa and we did a holiday in Cornwall in it no problems whatsoever.

Thanks… since you have had both have you ever thought or wished you had an ICE car?

Any real difference in your fuel bill?

The Cornwall trip was great for putting my mind at ease. I guess as long as your not in a hurry to get somewhere it’s not an issue. We’ve done a few away games too in the Northwest and I’ll be going to Wembley in May too if things go to plan.

Yeah we have taken the wife’s car to Dorset and only needed one stop at Banbury for 40 mins.

Just didn’t know if we could both swap to electric

It’s all down to your lifestyle really. We don’t travel far very often. Just a few times a year. I’ve driven to Spain a few times and to be honest it wouldn’t bother me in my car now. I’d just need to allow a bit more travel time. A big thing for us is we don’t need to travel during school holidays as I’d imagine charging queues could be bad then.

For local driving, an electric car is no problem at all. On long trips timing and patience are required. We've done two trips to Barcelona and beyond [South London Smoglet has relocated] in our Renault Zoe. The first in September 2021 we mostly took back roads through France and Spain charging cheaply at lower power outlets in small towns or villages. The second we're just back from. In winter, there's no picnicking by pretty village ponds, so we mostly used the motorways. It was cold on the way back and the range took a big knock, particularly around Perpignan and Narbonne, where we had 0-2°C temperatures and a 50mph Tramontane wind on the nose. For the scenically minded, the A75 from Clermont Ferrand to Béziers is strongly recommended and apart from the Millau Viaduct, it's free.
