North Tyneside here. Had leaflets from Labour, Tories, LibDems, Greens and independents but no Reform as of yet. No cavassers either. We went to the hustings last week and Froggy's minions were absent there too. Good job, they'd have been spitroasted. Labour are a shoe in.
 
Seen none of them since the last election.
Three leaflets through the door.
Recycle bin.
No canvassers.
 
I’ve been able to vote every election since 1979 and in all that time I have never answered the door to a political canvasser of any party.

I once had a phone call years ago from Labour and I was once canvassed in the street in Spennymoor by Martin Bell who at the time was standing as an independent against Tony Blair after the Iraq war.

The wife said she has twice told the Tories ‘no chance’ in the last few weeks, From what she said I think one of them might have been Jacob Young.

Plenty of leaflets though from all of them so probably just at work when they have called.

I’ve seen Labour canvassing on Saturday mornings in Great Ayton.

My wife is politically unengaged. We are one of those families who are wealthy enough for the current climate not to effect us so she is comfortable.

Anyhow I did the political questionnaire on another thread with her to try and engage her. She came out lib demmy'ish.

However when I was asking questions about tax and immigration her lack of under standing of the subjects led to I don't know answers.

That's the general level of political engagement from the vast majority of the electorate. My wife isn't stupid, she isn't interested.

The only difference between my wife and the mouthy guy down the pub is that she knows she has no interest or knowledge of politics, the gammon down the pub has no idea how much his knowledge is lacking.
 
About 75,000 people are in each constituency in the UK, that's about 35,000 houses.
It's just impossible to knock on all the doors during an election, I think we have about 20-40 regular door knockers in Middlesbrough, but we also have lives to live, work to do and families to see.
I've knocked whole streets and had people complaining to me that they weren't in when we knocked on their door. It's tough and in a short general election period like we've had this time, areas are targeted, mainly because of turnout and or previous voting records and demographic. In Middlesbrough we also have 2 council by-elections so them area's will also be targeted.

Personally I would hate knocking on doors. My Dad canvassed for Labour in the 1970’s and said some people were very abusive.
 
We live in an era where people don't answer the phone to unexpected callers. I suspect many voters now view unsolicited canvassing as ill-mannered and obtrusive.
 
Many folk have signs on the door that say ‘no salespeople or canvasses. You just don’t knock on those doors.
