Eddie Howe

I never forget they supported sacking Sir Bobby after he finished 5th in the Prem and got to the semi's of a Euro Cup.
Shearer was in the background with his dirty spoon and it was after Bobby left him out he got sacked.
They already had Souness lined up to take over...... that went well.

According to BBC gossip they are interested in Mourinho.
Imo he is past his use by date.Everytime I see him take on a job now his first press conference is laughter, light hearted and he works the press and you think he have the players going and motivated as well. Then 6 or 7 months later he is arguing with the press and fallen out with key players. Pogba said recently that he suffered depression after falling out with Mourinho. I used to love him as a manager but he brings too much baggage with him now, and he is just as likely to cause problems than solve them.

He has.

Doesn't mean he hasn't done a good job, but Newcastle spent more than any other club in the world in January.

They should be climbing the table with that investment.
But to put into context a third of it was on Chris wood who has scored 2 goals

They were underachieving under the previous manager. Howe lifted them up to somewhere around where they should’ve been, the signings have then pushed them on further. He’s done a good job so far. The money obviously helps but it isn’t always easy to spend it well, as we know from experience.

I hope they get relegated next season, obvs.

I never rated Howe, though he was a smug arrogant CU next tuesday, couldnt organise a defence, had to win by outscoring the opposition, tactically naïve and would only ever be successful at Bournemouth due to massive budgets

I was totally wrong, he's done a brilliant job at Poocastle, hats off to the fella.

Bournemouth seemed to win 4-3 or get beat 4-0 - exciting to watch Im sure but not what the top managers do

I'm not sure who we are classing as a top manager these days. Pep, Klopp, Tuchel? Howe is up there with anyone else in the PL for me. Regardless of their backing he did well at Bournemouth and established them in the PL.

He's done better than I thought he would. Fair play. They threw money at the problem and not all of it worked (Chris Wood has been pretty poor), Keiran Trippier was the most important signing in many ways giving credibility to the efforts to bring in others but he has only played five times (I believe?).

It will be interesting to see if Howe can bring in "top" players. I suspect it will remain difficult for NUFC to bring in players in their prime for a few seasons they will have to be creative in who they sign a mix of players with potential, by out bidding the usual suspects, and players coming towards the end of their careers by offering them extended contracts that they wouldn't command elsewhere. My personal feeling is that Howe will only last next season before they go with a big name manager to help them with recruitment.

I always had EH down as a potential England manager
I remember when his name was touted on here as potential manager it was generally disregarded.

It wouldn't surprise me if they move Howe on for Mourinho, sounds like the type of thing the Saudi owners would do. They've just stumbled upon a good manager and created an excellent team spirit, Howe deserves the chance to try and take them to the next level. Rather than give him that chance they replace him with a has been who then ruins the team spirit. 'Clueless' would be the only word to use if that happened and they'd be disliked even more.

agreed -but howes stock would be very high, and another top job would come along - everton would be perfect (for example). that said, I can't believe they will ditch howe now, it would be complete madness.
