Eat out to spread the virus scheme

South Korea seem to be handling it okay

South Korea, China and other Asian countries had effective methods to stop the virus getting a foothold in the first place. I don't think they are particularly relevant examples when talking about the resurgence of a virus that was circulating massively in the country. I think Germany is the real outlier and we should be taking lessons from them.

It wasn't circulating massively in July, where we had infection rates at a level that South Korea had in both March and August. They contained and suppressed the spread of the virus on both occadions.

Fair enough guys but it did prop up the restaurant business and save jobs.
Loads of people not wearing masks in shops in Boro with zero enforcement....more of an issue for me !
It did more for the hospitality industry than anyone can fathom mate.

I for one still have a job and our business now has long to medium term job security which August helped out massively with.

Those shouting it down sound like they would prefer millions to be still below them on the breadline, don't worry guys and girls, we will still be the some of the hardest working dregs of society.

You should still be open fella
Heartbreaking for those in the industry. My local pub landlord has spent over £20k and done an incredible job. No T+T contacts at all. He’s been running the pub for 15 years.
He said to me on Saturday - glad its only a month. If it was 2 or 3 I might after wrap in.
I’ve left him to work out what happens next.

I personally don't think we'll be back open as normal untill January.

Luckily I've got a whole 8 hours work every week doing takeouts on a Thursday night and Sunday lunches. The 80% furlough means perversely my November paycheck will be better than October's so can't complain too much.

Just think if they had given the hospitality industry even a fraction of the 12bn pounds wasted on Dido harding then they wouldnt have needed eotho

Very true. I loved August though. Those who work in the trade and moaned about it been too busy are in the wrong profession. Nothing better in my game than been busy every night, get a massive buzz off of it.
To be fair aswell the breweries have been fantastic to those places that aren't freeholds cutting rents etc.

During August did the virus only strike between mon-weds in the hospitality industry then? No one get infected thurs-sun i presume 🤷‍♂️

It’s a virus. It spreads.
You can stay in doors as long as you want but, unless you have a vaccine, it will continue to be there when you come out.
It doesn’t go round the houses and say ‘bahhhh, no one is out on the streets, I’m off to france’,
To be fair though, being a virus and not a bacteria means it only survives outside of a host for so long. Having potential hosts not getting close enough to transmit it WILL eventually kill it.

Yep agree with all of this. It was the right thing to do to keep businesses open, but it wasn't backed up by the necessary test and trace capabilities. And most places were still taking a hit as they couldn't operate at full capacity. The sequencing of measures has been so hit and miss throughout so you just get this muddle which culminates in a second lockdown.

It was mindless incompetence, never mind the right thing to do. You put other requirements in place first. How many would have gone bust without the ridiculous scheme?

Very, very few. They'd made it through lockdown, there was absolutely no need to have places packed out.

I don't think we ever got it to the level of control they had. Our was all over the country. Theirs were in contained outbreaks that they fully contact traced.

We were lower than the numbers they went up to. At 530 cases a day, we had a few hotspots, most notably Leicester. Scotland got to zero cases a day at times and it reappeared in hotspots. Seoul nightlife was the major problem in the August outbreak and that was widespread in a city of 10 million.
