Dylan's 80

What's your favourite track? Mine's probably Lay Lady Lay. Funny feller, spent most of his career seemingly trying to destroy his own legend.

Bob Birthday Dylan 80th Happy

A paintbrush fingered builder of dreams,
poetical firelighter inviting deduction,
slid out a chisel from his old blue jeans,
chipped away ever since in deconstruction.

Normally I would say this is an impossible task. Loved Dylan all my life(well since I first became aware of him) and he has had so so many brilliant songs. That said I have loved Love Minus Zero/No Limit and every time I hear it I think to myself that this is my favourite Dylan song. So instead of being an impossible task it turned into an easy one.

Bob Dylan - Love Minus Zero/No Limit

Like a Rolling Stone, particularly live, Birmingham & Wembley circa 2001 with Larry Campbell, bliss. (Bit boring /predictable I know) Also loved his London Calling reprise at Brixton Academy after Joe Strummer’s death .

Probably my favourite of all time but I would say my favourite song changes daily.

At the moment it's probably this:

Feels like a deconstruction of his 60s peak, albeit around 12 years later. Lyrically it's pretty good too.

Sorry, but Lay Lady Lay wouldn't get in my top 100. Love Minus Zero/No Limit is great but it's an impossible task. If I told you my favourite right now, I'd need to change in ten minutes' time. Cerys Matthews did a Dylan special on Radio 6 yesterday - originals and covers. It's well worth a listen. She played Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands which you don't hear often on the wireless for obvious reasons. It's absolutely magnificent.

Like most, my favourite song changes on a regular (sometimes daily) basis but Like Changingman I have been listening to WAYT a lot recently.
Another that has been getting a lot of attention is Chimes of Freedom. Love this song.

Tough question ..

If I have to pick just one I'll go for Visions of Johanna

Honourable mentions to Like a Rolling Stone, (all of) Blood on the tracks (it's that open E tuning), Forever Young, sneaky regard for On a Night Like This (on Planet Waves)

It changes by the day for me too, but I do like Tangled Up In Blue; I did think I was the only person who liked Where Are You Tonight? but changingman is also a fan, as seen above.
