Me and Mrs Zin are spending a couple of nights in Durham in November.
Looking for recommendations folks!
Quite like the idea of Gussto tapas bar.

The rabbit hole is great for Chinese. Akarsu for Turkish. Barrio comida for Mexican is decent. Zen for Thai. Can’t beat Spag for Italian. For pubs the Woodman is excellent. But it depends what floats your boat! Not heard of Gussto but don’t really go out too much these days!

Everywhere in Durham is maximum of 20 minutes walk away, so don't be put off by thinking something is a little off the beaten path.

Course (North Road) does a fine dining tasting menu, Barrio Comido does a fine dining Mexican one on a Saturday both about £60+booze.
My fav' is Lebaneat, food is perfect for me.
Loads of decent Indian restaurants (or as people have said to me many times "Indian owned, Bangladeshi ran and the food is cooked for English people") and starting to get decent Asian restaurants on North Road, near the centre & in Gilesgate that are ran by & cater for the growing Asian student population in Durham.

Zen, Rabitt Hole & Gadd's Townhouse were all owned/ran by Nigel Gadd and (last year?) he *sold* them to his son.

I'm not saying the food has declined but there's always been a certain sense, in my mind certainly, of a lack of authenticity in the food from there.
Never had a bad meal or evening but if I was wanting a special occasion, I wouldn't go there. To me, they are safe but unspectacular.

Loads of great pubs as well.
Station House, near the station, was runner up in CAMRA pub of the year last year.
Elm Tree is always decent for beer & has a tough but fun quiz on a Wednesday.
The Victoria, opposite the Rabbits Hole, is a beautiful old pub with a classic layout & coal fires on nearly all year round.
Woodman is on the way back after shutting pre-lockdown into a decent locals pub.
