Grab your jab this week and play your part in the fight against Covid-19.

Vaccine clinics are throwing open their doors in key Middlesbrough communities today (Thursday, August 26), tomorrow and Saturday - and anyone over 16 is invited.

And footie fans can make match day their jab day when the MFC Bus will be transformed into a mobile clinic at the Riverside Stadium in the run-up to Saturday's game against Blackburn Rovers.

It's the latest push in the drive by public health chiefs to get as many people as possible vaccinated against Covid-19, paving the way for a return to normality.

Anyone over 16 is now eligible to get the jab - and those who've had both jabs no longer need to self-isolate even if a close contact tests positive for Covid-19.

To get your jab - no appointments needed and both Astra Zeneca and Pfizer will be available - simply turn up at one of the following sites:

Central Middlesbrough Primary Care Network Clinical Director Dr Vaishali Nanda said: "The vaccine is a great protection against this terrible illness, and the programme has been a huge success across the UK.

"The take-up locally has been fantastic, but we know there are still some who haven't had either their first or second jab.

"This is a great opportunity to protect yourself and those around you, so I'd urge as many people as possible to come along."

This week's Middlesbrough vaccination drive is a collaborative approach in partnership with Holgate, Greater Middlesbrough and Central Middlesbrough Primary Care Networks, Newcastle Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Middlesbrough Council and NHS Tees Valley Clinical Commissioning Group.

Middlesbrough Mayor Andy Preston said: "The vaccine is our best route out of the pandemic, and it's already protecting millions of people across the UK from the worst effects of this dreadful disease.

"It's completely free, safe and effective and has already saved countless lives, but we need as many people as possible to get the jab.

"We've done brilliantly in Middlesbrough so far - we just need a final push to get the job done and get back to normal life, so if you haven't had the jab, what are you waiting for?"

From what I've read, the majority of the Boro squad are reluctant to get themselves vaccinated. If this is true, shouldn't the club be making more of am effort to make sure they do? A photo-shoot in the Gazette of a nurse working the needle through the tatts should help. Shouldn't it?

The club cannot force the players - just the same as any employer or existing employees. But we really wish they would get jabbed. The pitch is a red zone at the moment protecting players from fans. Or should that be the other way around. Am not sure the match officials or indeed our coaches and 72 year old manager will be comfortable with the situation.

They should be leading by example, but football and footballers have different rules to the rest of us.
You only have to look at the euros.
Rules went out the window because there was billions involved. Don't get me wrong I'm pleased about the football but it's a absolute joke when the rules stated at the time 30 max at a funeral but wembley was sold out for final.
As I said it's all about money

Probably not. What about some downward pressure from the FA, the FL and the PFA? And the club management making more of a public fuss.
I don't think Neil Warnock could make more of a fuss than he has. It won't just be Boro players - Man U have hinted about it at Old Trafford. Am not sure FA etc can do anything really here. Whether the PFA could take a lead..
I wonder why they are not getting jabbed. What is going on when fellow players such as at Newcastle have had long covid. When Boro's manager has had covid and is 72.

if a player was on £520,000 per annum and their insurers won't insure them for loss of earnings if anything went wrong then i can see why they wouldn't take the jab. I'm sure there's other possibilities.

Alot of footballers but not all don't live in the real world, there are some good ones like George Friend & Grant Leadbetter but also many big time Charlie's who think they are untouchable
