Downing Back to Blackburn

I see they are very short on players through injury despite having the biggest squad in the Championship in terms of numbers.

You've got to give the lad credit he's had a cracking career . Ok it was disappointing last time at Boro but when you factor all his contracts and stats , he can certainly hold his head up 👌

706 games, 63 goals, and 95 assists (probably higher but his career is so long that some competitions didn't have comprehensive stats back then). Player of the year for Boro, West Ham and Aston Villa, 35 full caps, 21 youth caps. 2 league cup wins, UEFA cup final, another league cup final, an fa cup final. 2006 world cup squad, Euro 2012 squad.

My abiding memory of his career will be absolutely torturing future Champions League and World Cup winning right back Massimo Oddo (Lazio), he absolutely destroyed him that day. IIRC Couto suggested he should be a regular for England the next day, he was so impressed.

Hell of a career.

Couldn't agree more. And that performance against Oddo that day was one of the very finest single performances I've seen in my years supporting Boro.

Bet he has assessed the state of the country ; thought. i'm only going to get a fraction of my normal wage in a deal or nothing...and realised he needs to dust his boots down and get himself earning whilst he can...must be gutted though ; probably on a 2k/week versus 10k plus/week previously...

I doubt it's even about money, he's had big moves and plenty of years at the top, I'd like to think this is about missing the thrill of playing and knowing sitting on his ass, he'll regret it in 2 years.
