Downfall of Assad orchestrated by Russia

His army just melted away, he and is family are safe in Russia probably with untold wealth. Did Putin and Assad arrange this to leave Syria as a magnet for terrorist groups? This then provides a distraction for the Western Allies for Russia in Ukraine and North Korean and Chinese ambitions

I can believe that Russia wanted out, to concentrate resources elsewhere.

No. Russia has just lost its Mediterranean naval and air bases, its troops have abandoned all their kit. Hardly a strategic master stroke.
The takeover groups have allegedly said Russia can keep them if they dont bomb their people 🤷‍♂️

The Russians have been pulling back for months, it was only a matter of time for the separatists to step into the void however I think even they were surprised at how much the Russians had withdrawn from behind the front lines.

They need the resources elsewhere.

4D chess!

No, they just didn't have the resources to prop up the regime anymore because of their own self-inflicted quagmire in Ukraine.

Syria was a huge success for Russia. Putin propping Assad up was a demonstration of Russian military might and a contrast with the West’s debacle in Afghanistan.

That alone should give you pause for thought that this was some sort of genius plan.

But the biggest plus for Putin with his alliance with Assad was the naval base in the med and an airbase. This was a massive, massive plus. Huge.

They have gone. The idea this is anything but an absolute disaster for both of them is crazy.

I can only wonder if you are so busy looking for a silver lining, you’ve forgotten about the great big fcuk off black cloud blotting out the sky.

And Assad was being a physical barrier to Qatari gas finding its way into key Russian markets.

Now the Gulf states can pipe it straight across Syria and into the EU.
