The campaign to save the Dorman Long Tower was initially successful after local lobbying by the public and local politicians succeeded in presenting the case to English Heritage for the tower to be Grade II listed. But a couple of days later this preservation order was overruled by Nadine Dorries on her first day in office and the tower was hastily destroyed before there was any chance of lodging some kind of appeal and campaign.
