The campaign to save the Dorman Long Tower was initially successful after local lobbying by the public and local politicians succeeded in presenting the case to English Heritage for the tower to be Grade II listed. But a couple of days later this preservation order was overruled by Nadine Dorries on her first day in office and the tower was hastily destroyed before there was any chance of lodging some kind of appeal and campaign.

that's not what happened.

Dorman Long Tower was listed by Veronica Fiorato English Heritage 18:26pm Friday 10th September 2021

the delisting by Nadine Dorries was received at 13:39pm Thursday 16th September 2021
(this was her first day in the job btw.. much of which was taken up in the natural history museum)

Dorman Long Tower it was demolished 02:00am Sunday 19th September 2021 (60 hours later)

it was vandalised before that to make a case for it not being structurally sound, demolition started before permission had been granted and the structural report had been changed to suit the narrative. condition costs etc.

not one politician (past or present) was involved in anyway with the listing of the dorman long tower.

I myself applied to have the Dorman tower listed on my phone whilst on the train to a see Scotland vs Moldova
Friday 3rd September 2021.. another private individual made a similar application around the same time. No attempt was made previously and no assistance was given or offered by those who claimed to be in favour of saving the tower.

It could have and should have been done long before. The lack of foresight and planning in this area is terrifying.. the only entities that succeed it seems are those only intent on lining their own pockets. Thick or corrupt? Take your pick.. they are interchangeable and lead to exact same outcome. Loss of publicly owned assets.
