Donald Trump calls for election to be ‘delayed’

Apparently it’ll be the most fraudulent in history so he wants to delay it. Quelle surprise.

Isnt it just amazing that right minded people let this monster carry on? it's utterly bewildering.

It's frightening to say but the way the corona virus is going on the USA personal voting may not be viable in November. Trump might actually get his way.
No that couldn't possibly happen could it? Anything is possible across the pond!

Even if the election could be delayed, his presidency (& vp of Pence) ends in January no matter what. Then the 'acting president' would step in until an election could be held, which I understand would be the speaker of the House of Representatives (Pelosi) or president pro tempore of the Senate (Grassley).

I understood that precendee in the US was President, VP then Representatives' Speaker, but I stand to be corrected on that. By someone who knows better, ideally :)

... then Representatives' Speaker...
Who I believe would be standing for re-election (at the postponed) elections in November. Therefore there is a debate as to whether she would still be in position as the Speaker, or whether it would move to next in line Grassley who isn't up for relection.

Confirmed she is standing for election, so her current term also ends in January 2021 and so she wouldn't be a Congresswoman but the Speaker for the House doesn't have to be... they just have to be elected by the House but there isn't a House as they've all been kicked out in January after not being re-elected.

So president pro tempore of the Senate would be next in line but there are also 35 Senators facing re-election. If they aren't re-elected & their terms end in January, Democrats will be the majority party in the Senate by 33 to 30, so president pro tempore of the Senate would pass to the most senior/longest serving Democrat which is Patrick Leahy.

As many of us said from Day One, Trump is a threat to democracy. If I was American I’d be in the camp of Americans who are frightened about the day after the election.

If Trump by some miracle wins again (most likely through voter suppression, there will be literal rioting from the left.

If Trump loses but, as expected, refuses to concede gracefully, the MAGA heads, fueled by Trump’s rhetoric, will grab their guns, head to the White House, and guard him.

Regardless of the outcome, this could get really ugly.

Not exactly the worst thing he's done really is it? Saint John Lennon was also happy to pop along too, just before preaching about world peace.

I had mates serving in Northern Ireland at the time, and Trump went there while the IRA had them in their sights - so it's certainly important to me
As for John Lennon I'm no big fan, especially after reading how he treated Cynthia

Sinn Fein are a massive red herring here. Like it or not, they're a completely legal political party and people vote for them. I'd have plenty of other things way above them in my 'Worrying things Trump has done' list.

That may be the case now but throughout the 70's 80's and 90's they were the political arm of the IRA and not 'just any other' political party

I know who they were. They've always had close links to the IRA, just as Paisley's lot were linked to their own paramilitaries. It's a can of worms and really not worth reopening here, but Trump has done far worse things. Sinn Fein was always well funded by the USA, it's hardly news.
