I love the personality of dogs and their ‘YES! BRILLIANT! LETS DO IT!’ attitude to absolutely everything, but, and I’m ashamed to say, I can’t get away with the smells and drool and dirt. I’m too ocd, even though I’d love one.

Cats are mint, love their sassy ‘FUUUCCKK YOU HUMAN!’ attitude but I’m allergic to them.

My kids are going to have to settle for goldfish 😞

You could get a bengal. They behave quite like dogs and are generally safe for allergy sufferers due to much less dander.

Cats for me. Less needy and independent. And certainly keeps us company without having a major impact on a busy social life.

A nice start to the day….

Philosophically - neither
Difficult to reconcile a human having a moral status whereas another living being does not.

The discussion goes something like this. Our ownership (normally described as a love of animals) causes pain (neutering/spade), stress and in some circumstances death. It is ownership on our terms for our benefit.

I get what you are saying but what about those good folk who take a rescued animal and look after it with love and kindness and give it care and companionship, where before it knew nothing but fear and suffering?
Surely they are improving the animal’s life and wellbeing immeasurably?

A dog will love its owner unconditinally.
A cat will treat its owner as a means to an end.

I want a dog, a Chihuahua
When I get back to my small flat
I want to hear somebody bark
Oh, you can get lonely
I want a dog

Don't want a cat
Scratching its claws all over my habitat
Giving no love and getting fat
Oh, you can get lonely
And a cat's no help with that

Bulldog, hound and pug and labrador
Collie, retriever and Doberman pincher
Husky, Dalmatian, Saint Bernard und Dachshund
Mongrel, beagle, Cocker spaniel

I want a dog
To walk in the park
When it gets dark
My dog will bark at any passers-by
Oh, you can get lonely
I want a dog

I want a dog, a Chihuahua
When I get back to my small flat
I want to hear somebody bark
Oh, you can get lonely
