Does anyone on here Vape?

Just watching an article on BBC about kids vaping…

Isnt it crazy how many kids you see puffing in these things… They look like highlighters and smell awful..

Each to your own, but are you still addicted to the nicotine in them? Do you feel healthier using these than cigarettes or do you still smoke and use vapes as a more socially acceptable means of getting your hit?

What are the health implications? And do you agree they’re just more plastic in land fills…

Should there be more regulation on them?

It’s a big concern of mine, I have an 18 year daughter who has never smoked cigarettes but since the age of 16 years old has been vaping ( behind our backs until she turned 18). She has the sweet smelling flavours and it is obviously being aimed at youngsters / children by the flavours and names ( unicorn / rhubarb and custard etc). We have tried to talk to her about the vaping and the lack of research and regulations followed but have learnt from past experience that if we go in to hard on this she will dig her heels in more.

The industry uses the claim that the flavour is aimed at adults to wean them off tobacco 🤷🏼‍♂️

They’re usually too sickly sweet to appeal to adults but at least they don’t linger like smoke..

Yes, and have done for years. Definitely felt an upturn in how healthy I felt when I swapped over from cigarettes (I'd smoked for years) but I guess that has levelled off now. I've never smoked the "sweet" flavours, always stuck to something as similar to tobacco as possible.

I actually think I'm more addicted to nicotine now than when I used to smoke, higher % nicotine in vape v cigarettes, but I'm started to reduce my intake and hoping to stop this year.

Our lass has them, the throw after ones you get for a fiver. She smoked normal cigarettes when we got together a year ago and i would always say it's rotten, it'll kill her, her clothes stink, she stunk wind her up etc and straight away she went on these instead. I don't mind them, the smell isn't that bad. She usually has the strawberry, cherry or cola ones and they smell sweet but not overpowering IMO. The big massive charger ones the huge things that look like TV remotes that give off the huge clouds of smoke, they can proper stink i think but honestly it isn't like its blown directly in your face either way. The disposable ones a lot cheaper than normal cigarettes but health wise she feels a million times better than when she smoked and she doesn't stink. The vape bars she has say 2% nicotine on them - i don't know what a cigarette is % wise - but these things are probably rotting her insides still, but 15 years of smoking will have done that anyway.

Side note, if anyone knows where you can bulk buy the bloody things let me know, sick of going and buying one at a time every other day.

I occasionally use a vape, but prefer a cigarette honestly.

(And yes I know the risks, the costs involved, blah blah). I don't smoke at home only at work, quite enjoy a cig and pint after working in 45°c heat all day. 🔥😎

Vape's make it rally easy to get off the fags, especially if you get a high power one. They do become addictive themselves in a different way, as I found you need to keep topped up on small hits of nicotine, rather than the instantaneous massive hit you get from a real fag (well the first one is a big hit anyway).

I detest the smell of real fags now, and tried one not long back and it made me feel sick, it's mad how I used to love smoking.

Vapes are fairly easy to quit too mind, I've quit a couple of times just by toning down the nicotine all the way to zero, and then after a few weeks on zero it's easy to just stop. The only reason I went back on it was nicotine suppresses my appetite, so it's easier to lose a few kg.

I don't see nicotine (in vapes) any more of a risk than caffene, and certainly no more risk than scoffing a parmo per week or 10 pints, but obviously full on smoking is probably worse.

Just to see echo what others have said. I use one and have done for ~8 years now.

I wouldn't have been able to quit fags without, I used to smoke a hell of a lot of baccy.

I would struggle without mine, so keep two just in case.

From personall experience I'd say I think capes are 90% better for you than tobacco.

Although you must change the coil regularly and also let it soak in. The element can burn otherwise which can give an awful burned metal taste. Which can't be healthy. A bit like smoking a cig all the way onto the filter. I also find I can get slight aches and pains if I haven't changed the coil recently. Could just be coincedental of getting older. (40)

I know people who never smoked that have started vaping...
I know people who have never smoked start to smoke, start to drink 20 pints a week or start to scoff a take away 5 times a week/ some other junk. Same as there's others who do all the later, all their lives but don't vape or smoke etc.

I'm no expert but I bet any of those other things I mention are far worse, in fact I am betting, with my life  Don't get me wrong mind, not saying vapers don't drink or eat junk either, but I bet the drinking/ junk food are causing them more harm.

I know some people can get away with nothing, eat well, not drink and be super fit, but most aren't like that. I suppose people with addictive personalities need "something", and I suppose I'm like that, but see the vaping as the least worst thing.

Vaping is still really helping to bring down actual smoking, pretty much every smoker I know has quit, thanks to vaping, and I think that's great.

Kids shouldn't be vaping mind, in the same way they shouldn't be smoking or drinking, and they are all illegal but I see childhood obesity as a bigger problem at the minute, it grew by around 4% per year from the last study carried out, the numbers are horrifying.

I work in a primary school and we've had a few issues with vaping this year. Some pick them (used) off the floor to puff away on, some allowed by parents as it's not as bad as cigarettes. Then you get the wannabe Del Boys trying to bring them in and sell them...

One positive of vapes is that fewer children arrive smelling like they've done a double shift in the Benson & Hedges factory. People who frequently smoke at home have no idea how bad everything smells after being inside it.

There are a few studies out there now that vapes have been used for a while to show that there is damage being caused to internal organs (lungs, heart etc)

Exactly how much damage is being caused is not yet known, but they are collating figures and we should now in a few years time.

I think one of the things that is different between vapes and ciggies is that with vapes you are inhaling quite hot air, which your lungs are not designed to do. They are not yet sure how this will affect them.

My wife, a health professional, thinks that it is just a ticking time bomb and will come back to bite us in 20 years time (assuming we are all still here that is)

As much as I disagree with kids vaping, I think these high sugar and caffeine energy drinks are far worse and there really needs to be some level of regulation.

I'm sure that batman would agree with that 😊

Do vapers have the choice of how much smoke they give off? It’s what I’ve heard. People who choose the heavy smoke must be right selfish ….

I heard a report on a science podcast not so long ago that there might be some serious issues with the various flavoured ones. I don’t think they are regulated and a study found an awful lot of other harmful chemicals in some of them.

Far better smell for non smokers though.

Vaped for a few years after smoking for 15 or so.
Packed the vaping in a couple of years back. I just set a date in the calendar that I’d stop on.

Like people above have said, I was apprehensive about packing beforehand, wondering how I’d “cope” but it was very very easy.
After a couple of days I didnt feel like I was missing anything. There’s actually nothing to cope with, nothing you’re missing out on, the feeling of normality that a nicotine hit returns you to becomes normality.
I’ve been out on the beer plenty of times since with people who smoke or vape and it just doesn’t bother me.
There’s no denying that nicotine is addictive, but I think a big reason a lot of us continue to use it is having it drummed into us how hard it is to quit.

Physically, I felt better after quitting smoking, but after quitting vaping I don’t feel any different to be honest.

I am fairly sure that the nicotene isnt the problem health wise. I know it is a deadly poison in high amounts but not the amounts in vapes or even normal tabs. it was just to keep you addicted.

It was the tar in the ciggies that did for peoples' health (mainly), but I would have thought inhaling any foreign objects into your lungs over prolonged periods of time could cause damage to the lining of the lungs and until there are studies lasting 20-30 years it is not really possible to say how safe or otherwise vapes are.

It's still unpleasant......
