Does anyone actually think that was an improvement?

Thing that impressed me about Forss was him keeping the ball when it went to him as that was a previous worry if he isn't scoring then what can he do. He looked a handful last night and hope to see him get plenty of chances now. I have no doubt he can chip in with goals this season.

No different to the rest of the season so far.
Didn't really create any more or defend any better, just avoided being punished for our mistakes for once.
Half the goals we've conceded this season have came about from situations like that Dijksteel mistake in the first half, luckily Steffen did well to prevent Hogan scoring.

Can't expect much of a change in 48 hours though.
I wasn't expecting a change in 48 hours. That isn't my point.
My point is it seems a lot of people do think we were better, as evidenced on this thread. I just don't see it.

I think your post is spot on

I wasn't disagreeing with your point, I've seen plenty on social media going overboard with praise for a scrappy win in a poor game.

I was just saying that I am aware that it's a small time frame to expect change in to try and head off any criticism about me being overly negative.

I don't think the performance was any better no. We've played much much better than that and not won this season. I was falling asleep in the second half. The game was ugly.. they were no better.

The win was massive, though. Prolonged spells of performances like that will be an issue, but the win was all that mattered.

Hopefully we can get through Saturday unscathed, get the appointment made and start building for the months and years to come as a cohesive, confident outfit.

I don't think it was any better than what we've seen so far this season and worse than other performances but I wasn't expecting anything else. I do think the players were committed though and it was much better than the recent performances against Cardiff and Coventry when I think the players had stopped playing for Wilder.

The most improved thing for me is we got 3 points, absolutely vital.
I'm with a poster below if we can stay within 2-3 points of the play offs before the world Cup I'd be confident in whoever the new gaffer is getting a few new players in January and kicking on.
Best thing was I never felt nervous, haven't felt like we weren't gonna concede in a long time, Players really stepped up their work rate and desire last night.
I'd take a point at the weekend before the new gaffer arrives

I'd say it was a big improvement defensively. Brum had chances but apart from that back pass we defended like a play off side.

I thought that Forss look dangerous and despite us playing the long ball a few times we did look threatening and could have got another goal.

Don't forget Brum aren't a daft side. They got a draw away at the league leaders at the weekend. It was an improvement.

I thought we dealt with their crosses very well considering how weak we have been with those type of situations so far this season. Steffen looked confident when collecting them and Fry won several important headers.

Players like McNair and Dijksteel are still looking very nervous or lacking confidence on the ball. Paddy especially, he gives the ball away more often than not these days, he needs to stop rushing things.

Deffo Muniz header against the bar (watch the highlights on MFC.com - shows it from several camera angles)

It was a much-improved performance, not sure how anyone couldn't see that? Improvements principally in energy, commitment and team spirit, granted we didn't create many more chances than other recent games but looked less likely to concede (d*ck Steel's brain fart excluded).

THREE POINTS

Wilder's Press went out of the window and rightly so. Back to basics.. we kept it simple, we drove forward with intent, we took away their chances and removed risks.

I think a lot of people have been taken in by Wilder's utter garbage nonsense his comment about being top of the xGs table was up there with 'THE TABLE IS LYING' - infact it was much worse. Jonathan Woodgate was finding his feet in all aspects of management, for a so called experienced manager to come out with something like that.. the mind boggles. I would have booted him on that alone tbh

I thought Wilder’s starting selection against Coventry was pretty much a sack me if you want move. The main difference last night for me was there seemed to be more passion / togetherness on the pitch and sideline. Real joy in the goal celebration and even the substitutions were received positively with players congratulating those leaving. Felt different in attitude rather than performance but I will take the positives and a vital 3 points

It was an improvement as we got the win, attitude seemed better from the players as well. Not necessarily a better performance than Wilder’s been producing, but players seemed to want to win for the manager, something we seemed to have lost.

I feel a bit sorry for Wilder, as some of the players had clearly stopped working for him and listening to him, but I guess that’s modern football and showed why he had to go.

Last night was very similar to the Rotherham performance.

And yet we won.

Definitely not going to complain for last nights performance given our form, plus the fact Leo only had 2 days to prepare the team, tactics etc.

We take the 3 points, move on, and try and build for Saturday which will be a very tough game against Millwall.
