Do you talk to your dog?

yes I definitely do.
had a few dogs before and they’ve always understood walkies and dinner.

but this one I’ve got now is phenomenal. Sure he tries to say out and want one. His understanding of words is mesmerising. I don’t just tell him walkies, I tell him which route. Rock around the block is short walk with music on but if I say rivers and park he takes that route, we’ve more routes than that I reckon he knows half a dozen. But if you say chicken dinner and give him beef he goes on hunger strike 😂. If you tell him back in half hour and take half a day he sulks, if you say half a day and be half a day he’s sound with that and pleased to see you.
Dogs don't get near enough credit. Ours understands right and left, or at least which way to go when you tell him. The list of words never to be said around him if you want any peace is quite extensive and includes the traditional ones as well as van, lake, river, swim, rabbits, Chuckit, cheese, tent and a fair few others. Add in the names of his favourite, dog-friendly stores such as Wags and Whiskers, Go Outdoors, Pets At Home and Currys too.

I was thinking about getting him one of those soundboards that allows them to communicate, but I'm already pretty attuned to his way of speaking.

I leave a menu for him next his bed, so he can choose his dinner, pudding and tea.
Bit like a hospital ward.
A big wet nose appears if he wants any treats and he gives his paw when he wants a walkies.
Clever dog.🐶

Of course I do...he's a member of the family so why shouldn't you. He understands loads of words and is extremely intelligent (and vocal....crossbreed 2 types of terrier Patterdale and Jack russell). Also the most loving and loyal fella too....has never left my side this week while I've been struggling. He'll be looking forward to his Sunday roast today too!

they definitely know when you are struggling. They just get that bit closer.

My daughter has a Patterjack. Lovely creatures.

We talk to our dog constantly.. why wouldn’t we she’s part of our family.

Having said that we are currently on our first proper holiday abroad without her and are all missing her like crazy! Willow won’t care less as she is getting spoilt rotten at my Mum n Dads!

I don’t have a dog, but if I did I would definitely talk to it.

When ever I see a nice looking random dog in the street I smile at it…like it’s gonna smile back or summat? In fact they kind of do when they start wagging their tale which just shows how emotionally intelligent they are.

Having just fostered this little fella from the cat and dog shelter I'm hoping it goes well and becomes a permanent rehome.

9 weeks old, called Toby and full of beans. No idea what sort of dog he is but he's definitely English as he understands 'sit' 😃

Mostly cocker spaniel judging by the face and ears…possibly a bit of terrier too

Supposedly a cockapoo but no idea to be honest, he's a handsome bloke though so you can tell I'm only his stepfather haha.
Definitely not a cockapoo. Cocker mix, but no poodle that I can see, at least not as a poodle parent. Maybe he was a cocker bred with a doodle of some description though. Either way he looks brilliant and I hope you keep him.
See the photo of my little fella earlier in the thread. He's 95% Cocker in his nature, but still recognisable as an F1 cockapoo.
