Do you listen to Podcasts or Audiobooks?

I recently got into audio books and podcasts for driving. Found Derren Brown's Bootcamp for the Brain as a free trial into Audible which I enjoyed and now listen to a few. Am working through Athletico Mince and like catching up on Elis James and John Robins' show from BBC 5Live as a podcast. Will have to look up a few more people have mentioned. Better than a lot of the guff on radio these days. Still like reading "proper" books, especially fiction.

Ellis and John are well worth a listen.

The Roy Hodgson special on Athletico Mince is very funny.

checkout the Blindboy Podcast hard to describe what it is but some very interesting stuff on it including some good mental health segments, lots of hot takes on many random subjects, warning if British and easily offended he does dig out British the Colonisation of the world and Ireland in particular quite a bit but with some justification to be honest

I used to be a heavy listener when I commuted but working from home has stopped that. I can't listen and work, I either do no work or don't pay attention to what I'm listening to. Needs to be something passive for me.

Audiobooks I find it really depends on the person reading. I've listened to books that I like but can't listen to because of the narrator. Some favourites were The Martian, Ender's Game, Hitchhikers Guide, Game of Thrones, Harry Potters.

Podcasts I liked were: Athletico Mince, Quickly Kevin, Off Menu, S-Town, Serial, Louis Theroux Grounded, My Dad Wrote a Porno.

I've found that by the time a Podcast gets round to doing live shows they have lost their spark.

Joan and Jerica

Clinton Babtiste

Comedians playing FPL Jon Richardson and Matt Forde

Richard Herring's

Adam Buxton's

That Joan and Jerica podcast is unbelievable. One of the few to have me almost doubled over laughing doing random tasks, like walking to the train station.

Fall of Civilisations. Was recommended here last time we had this thread.
The Album Years. Steven Wilson, interesting music chat.
The Real Science of Sport. Prof Ross Tucker, some interesting and informative stuff re: fitness etc.

Uncle Joey’s joint
The Joe Rogan Experience
This Past Weekend with Theo Von
The Overlap with Gary Neville
The Greatest Game with Jamie Carragher

me too. Used to get approximately 2 hours of listening every day. Still working from home I can't do that.

Listen to both
Suffer badly from Tinutus, so listening to audio helps me nod off. Casefile (which is an Australian produced true crime podcast) is good
Audio books. Sapiens, The Body by Bryson. Money by Marin Amis is a good laugh

I listen a lot in car, my favourites are:

The Socially Distanced Sports Bar - often interesting, laugh out loud funny most episodes.
The Price Of Football - a good insight into football finance.
Desperately Seeking Paul - For Paul Weller Fans only.
Not the Top 20 - EFL stuff
Ellis and John
Richard Herring
Adam Buxton
Chart Music - Lengthy analysis of old Top Of The Pops episodes with ex Melody Maker Journalists
Athletico Mince - from about Episode 10 to 40 absolutely superb. Other motorists must have thought I’d had bad news, had tears in my eyes listening to some of it.

Undr the Cosh is such an under-rated podcast. I'm in tears with laughter listening to it.

The Rugby Pod

I'd highly recommend the Joe Marler Show - don't have to be a rugby fan. He has a different job role/professional on every week e.g. psychologist, prison officer, tattoo artist etc. Gets into the weird and wonderful and is very funny!

James Smith Podcast
Kickabout with Johnny Vaughn

Also, note Quickly Kevin, will he score? 90s football podcast with Josh Widdicombe. Very funny and sentimental podcast.

I used to listen to Under The Cosh but got a bit fed up with the stories of drinking and lads holidays, they were a bit samey.

I’ll have a dip back in I think, it’s been a while.

It does make you realise that life in the lower leagues isn’t very glamorous and many of the managers sound like bellends.

I can’t think of any podcast specific shows that haven’t already been mentioned but can highly recommend In our Time from the BBC - Historical and science shows in particular. Makes me feel clever for about 10 mins after they finish then I forget.

Then another radio series - Sneakernomics. Who thought the history of trainers would have been so gripping.

Top Flight Time Machine is the funniest and best podcast out there in my opinion, the Odyssey's are some of the best stuff I've ever heard, 5 episodes a week but they maintain a remarkable high level of quality, you'll never see Roy Keane, Professor Yaffle, Kevin Keegan and Roy Race in the same light again.
Thanks Mary, will give them a listen.

Emily loved him.x

I listen to both, if you like audio books then download the “Libby“ app. This allow you to borrow audio books and is linked to your library account so no cost for audio books ( just finished Stephen Fry’s Heroes and mythos which were both excellent )

This American life - US show with huge back catalogue of documentary, investigating stories
