Do we currently have a government?

They clearly were fools, even if it's only in retrospect.
Sadly we could all see it coming. What is astonishing is despite the amount of money stolen to pass to their mates, corruption rife, Cummings running things along with the constant incompetence people are still supportive of this government. They need to take a long hard look in the mirror and ask themselves what do they have in common, what have they done for them and what will they do in the future and the answer to all those questions is nothing.

Labour have to accept some responsibility for failing to offer a viable alternative. They were as much out of touch with the majority of the electorate as the Tories are now.
At least we now have control over our own borders;)

Not all were fools, that's ridiculous. But I have been here before, the opposition decided to tell 52% of the population mainly in Labour heartlands that their opinion was irrelevant, the London inner circle knew better.

Ridiculous to interpret a confirmatory referendum as making peoples opinions irrelevant. It's literally asking for them to give their opinion.

Having said that, you're right about tory voters not all being fools. Most of them just like what they get voting tory: a cheap scruffy country where life gets harder for lots of people they have an irrational hatred for.

Labour did provide a viable alternative, it was outdone by a now sham election campaign by the tories promising an end to Brexit because of the "amazing" withdrawal agreement that was "oven ready" to do just that.

People fell for it.

On top of that, the media and big business telling everyone that Labour's plan's were unaffordable...Moonshot anyone? 🙄

Looking back and having seen some of the material that Channel 4 showed with regard to voter suppression in the US Presidential Election it's easy to detect the influence of Cambridge Analytica in the last GE. I had friends who were either regular Labour voters or floating voters telling me they "couldn't bring themselves to vote for Corbyn". When asked why I was given various nebulous reasons but over the previous months I had seen them like or repeat various Twitter or Facebook memes poking fun at Corbyn or Abbott nothing overtly political but clearly designed to make the two figures of ridicule.

Now I don't think that Corbyn's appalling campaign strategy helped but, in my opinion, voters were being fed this stuff to either influence the direction of their vote or to discourage them from voting at all.

Who are they? The lads in the Workman's Club I went in? They had never voted anything but Labour. As is quite normal in these clubs a lot of them and their close relatives were in or have been in the Military, they simply did not trust Corbyn, every time I said it was the press they brought out quotes he made to the Irish press, his comments to militants.
The stupid comment on how much the extra police would cost by his Treasury spokesman compounded their view on the front bench incompetence.
Then Brexit, how it ever became advisory I have no idea, but, they know it would not have been if Remain won. They are not that much of fools.

You may do despise them, but hey ho.

They are absolute fools - look what they've got.

People have to own their vote, many who would never normally vote, voted tory. Mainly because of brexit, many for xenophobic reasons.
Yes many voted Labour in the past because they thought that was what working class people did, but they found a kindred spirit in the division and bike spouted by farage and co.
You only have to see comments on our own teesside live on social media to see the hate.

Look at the Brexit threads for hate. There were even quite a few who wanted the old to die. I admire the poorest in Society for getting on with it I don't think I know what's good for them, I am not that arrogant.

I am confident we will win them back, but denying their rights will simply further antagonise them.

For the record I have never seen a Daily Mail in the bar, pretty much 70,% the Mirror.

You seem to have a very high opinion of yourself.

I have a close friend who is a Labour Councillor, here is his transcript on knocking on doors before the election .

Good evening I am checking we still have your Labour vote.

I voted to leave what is Labour policy

To have a further look at it.

Bye.

..and that is exactly what they've got. Good luck with that.

And yet they were happy to see a party that has cut the military to the bone continue in power.
A party that has cut services that they probably need more than others cut to the bone.

Jam, a bit sense to the discussion. All they needed was Corbyn just once to say he was patriotic pro the Military.
And to say he backed the referendum.

Bloody Starmer and his people's vote eh?

For goodness sake:
1. Corbyn wanted to save money on trident and invest more on personnel. He said as much more than once.
2. He respected the result of Brexit. PV was Starmer's idea.
