Djed Spence..

They are different players, but not massively, but Jones job isn't really wing back, albeit it may look that way on the team sheet.

Most of our attacking goes down the right, so Jones game is more that of a right winger or even right forward. The only time this doesn't really happen is when they double up on him, but that's fine, as it leaves gaps elsewhere, which we should be able to exploit.

The left hand side being more defensive lets our team rotate around the middle pivot, so Dijksteele is more of our right back than Jones is, when we don't have the ball or lose it high up the pitch on the right (which will always happen, as that's where we gamble).

Jones does come back though, but only when he really needs too, which is often after we've been attacking down the left (which doesn't happen often).

Spence isn't as good as Jones going forward, but slightly better defensively.

Really unfortunate that neither of them can really maintain their level on the left hand side, and Spence seems to be a bit disinterested when things are not going his way. He's not had 1/5th of the games Jones has for us at that level, especially going forward, which is what we need the most.

Having Spence in Taylor's role would have been ideal, as then there would be much more of a threat if we needed to switch things up.

Can't play them two on the same side though, not when they're both that young, they both need a licence to attack as this will develop them both fastest.
Spence seems to do well in front of the cameras.

Defensively Spence is lacking.

Jones has a game that suits our system and his attitude is superior to Spence too.

Spence is just a nice little earner for us.

He is what 21/22? Think around then my mind and body clicked and felt id become a real adult by then, some people mature at different rates. He is doing well but saying that, he is not irreplaceable and therefore i would cash in and buy 3 or 4 good quality players for the squad instead. His head is not at the boro no more. Good luck to him in his future

For me the reason behind his improvement other than being managed properly by Steve Cooper is he's now 2 or 3 hours away from London and it's easier for him to visit his family/friends.

I don't think he ever settled up here and factor in different managers not being able to get the best out of him he never looked like he'd be a top level player despite it being obvious he had the attributes.

The fact he's settled and got a manager playing him to his strengths makes him look like a quality player. Hopefully his price keeps going up, he doesn't get injured and Forest fail to make the play offs and he signs for a big fee for Spurs or some other big London team.

We should get a big fee - not sure of the relevance of Forest making the play offs.

Spence is now a far better player than when he was here. Forest/Cooper have improved him, as much as I don't like Cooper after all his 'classy club' nonsense. This will drive up the price for someone who doesn't want to play for us. That can only be a good thing.

Whilst I am delighted to see the value of Spence going up I don’t subscribe to the overall improvement in him as a player. Why? His defensive game is still a bit of work in progress. Both his positional play and defensive competence are questionable.

Going forward? Different proposition. And it is this part of his game that draws admiring glances.

Jones, who isn’t a full back, is better at full back than Spence, who is.
Glad to see Spence doing well but he only ever looked like inconsistent potential with us. Couple of good games but often a liability at full back.

Jones, in comparison, has been one of the best players in the league this year, and for my money in Boro’s top two performers.

With a lot of players a loan move or change of scenery makes them buckle down and work on their game. Let’s hope it works out for Djed and we get some money for him. A long term future for him at Boro is not in our interest or his.

He has looked good for Forest everytime I have seen him. Anyone who thinks at the current time that Jones is better than Spence is kidding themselves. Jones might be better in the future and at the present moment be more suited to our team, but Spence can make premier league players look very ordinary. Jones struggled quite a bit against Man United, I know this is just a one off. As pointed out by others Jones is really a converted winger. Spence looked good most of the time when Woodgate was here in a not very good team, not so great under Warnock. He never seemed suited or seemed to enjoy playing under Warnock, but plenty of other players no doubt didn't like Warnock's style of play but still knuckled down and tried their best. Looks like he Cooper at forest is a the perfect coach for him. I am sure that Wilder wouldn't want him back next season but I think that will be pretty much out of our hands.

Stats speak for themselves. Keep ignoring the facts

Spence is a young players who's best position isn't definite yet.

Too easy to pigeon hole him as a full back when he could easily be called a wing back or a wide attacking midfielder.

He's developing & his best position will become apparent in time.

It is absolutely brilliant that he is playing well now. The fact is that after initially looking good for us, for the last season and a half he was regularly the worst player in a Boro shirt. If we sold him over the summer I reckon the club would have got about £500k for him. I don't know what he is worth now, but it is several million. Cash in at the end of the season and give the windfall to Wilder to use. Everyone's a winner.

He helps Forest into the playoffs
Do I have to spell it out?!
If its not an obvious point by now, Jones wouldn't have broken into the team this season, had Spence not gone out on loan.

It's an odd situation, but in terms of monetary worth to Boro the current scenario is a win/win; Jones has shown he is an exceptional talent and Spence will make the club a big profit in the summer.

He doesn't but until he's sold he's a Middlesbrough player and we'll all keep talking about him.
Yeah, the one that got away, the one that wasn’t good enough, woodgate’s fault, warnock’s fault, bad attitude, wrong formation..

Whatever, we’ve got Isaiah Jones, Djed Spence is happy and we’ll probably get decent money for him in the summer. Everyone’s a winner.

Erm.. Warnock had Jones on the left and Tav on the right.. I think he brought Peltier in as a back up to Dijksteel. Warnock saw Spence more as an attacking player/winger. Jones got in off Ameobi’s injury.

If Djed had have stayed maybe he would have been on the right instead of Tavernier (with Tav playing more in the centre)

We deffo need Tav on the opposite side to Jones/ Spence, as Tav has the energy to cover more of that left hand side, and will be a bit deeper. But Tav is more adaptable to which side he's on, and Spence/ Jones aren't so makes sense to put Jones/ Spence where they want to be, and Tav can go to other side.

Makes sense having Crooks play the same side, as he'll press higher in support and be more of a goal threat.

I'm not sure I understand all of that, but under Warnock Spence was awful and under Wilder Jones has established himself as probably the best wing-back in the championship (including Spence, albeit Forest dont always play like that).

If Spence had stayed it's very likely that he would have played as right wing back.
