Dishwashers

Questions of the day:

Why have they been designed to get clogged and breakdown every time they have to deal with food particles greater than a few mm?

Why can't said particles just go down the drain, like they would do in the kitchen sink, rather than clog up the system and cause a hefty repair bill at worst or manky cleaning job at best?

Never owned a dishwasher and never will.

Honestly, unless you have a huge family and a mountain of washing up after every meal, what is wrong with washing by hand?
Same. I've ever had one and nobody will convince me that a dishwasher can clean pots better than i can. No chance that a dishwasher gets the pots, pans, plates cutlery glasses etc as clean as i can.
They're for industrial application only in my opinion.

These comments are not really fair on your wives and partners, I think they do a grand job! My dishwasher is called Frau Bosch btw 😀

I was a sceptic until I was given a never used but 5 year old Neff from a flat refurb we did. Had it for 10 years and it stopped during a power cut, got another free through insurance and had that for 15 years, left it for the incoming owner when we moved, they were a young couple with nothing. I wouldn’t go back to hand washing.

Insanity. Modern dishwashers very much get stuff very clean. With a family, and doing proper cooking (pots pans, oven dishes etc) we'd be forever washing up. Shove it in the dishwasher, switch on, put straight into cupboard. Easy.

Regarding the OP, mine never blocks up, we just wash the filter out occcasionally and that's it.

No chance that a dishwasher can wash up as clean as i can. All the grease and leftover food being swirled around with glasses and stuff, no thanks.
Plus you're taking away one of the most basic chores that kids should be doing of putting the pots away after tea. By the time you've scraped the food off, stacked the dishwasher, its done its thing, then you still have to put them away i'll have washed up for the whole street.

I know 3 people with them, all of them live with their mrs and at least 2 kids. 1 says its a god send and cant imagine life without it, 1 says he never touches it and the other says its never emptied and they live out of it.

I’ve had a few in various houses and I think I’ve only had one break which I fixed my self, a drain hose..

The biggest problem I have with them is the inability of other family members to load them properly and clean the filter…
