Dijksteel facing 'substantial' spell on sidelines

The decision to loan players out looks worse once injuries strike but to my mind the situation is exacerbated by the refusal to use the youths as cover. We’re a left-sided defender short at the moment so Kokolo should play. I think if the manager does that then discussions around systems and players playing out of position will subside. He can say he let Coulson go because he had an eye on easing Kokolo through in the coming months. At the moment it’s a bit messy but it needn’t be.

I suspect that what will probably happen tomorrow is Peltier and Jones playing wing back and McNair in alongside Fry and Hall. Howson, Crooks, Tav and Hernandez in midfield and Sporar up front.

But hopefully Bola is back because if he is then the situation is eased quite dramatically.

I'll be surprised if he plays Peltier RWB - from what I've seen he barely has the pace to be an effective full back let alone a wing back. Don't think his play in the attacking third is up to much either?

If we sit back and play with a flat back 5 he could possibly fit in there but I think Warnock will want to have a go tomorrow. Defeat tomorrow and the knives will be seriously out.

Yeah, Howson was really good at right back. Good footballer is Jonny Howson, not the goalscoring number 8 we all thought we were signing but we’re lucky to have a player so versatile who is just a decent footballer wherever you play him.

Can’t wait to see Payero start. From those training videos and his cameos he’s got a vicious shot, which I didn’t expect, and a bit of nastiness about him - can’t wait to see how he does.

JLS, Payero, McNair, I reckon Crooks could sit in there too. Oh and Morsy 😂

I know what you’re saying but it’s not like Jonny has been locking it down there, I don’t think he’s a natural in there at all. Season can’t get much worse, let’s get the new kids in and see how they go.

I get the impression that we were expecting to get Joe Bennett on a free and were left flat footed on deadline day. We aren't in the bottom half because we don't have cover at left back.

Not too sure if I'd have much confidence in any of them doing the role since it needs plenty of discipline. Maybe Conor Malley could be worth considering too, any idea if he's played this role for the U23?
 
Saw coulsen out injured at ipswich...no surprises there. As people have stated we can play, peltier, howson, mcnair at right back. Also have gitau and kokolo who can play RB and LB respectively in the academy. Whats the worry. Personally think dijksteel better as right sided centre back in a 3

Joshua Wells? He looks an absolute unit!

Jack Hannah, Luke Drummond, James Cook..

That’s what I thought! A proper wavebreaker.

Shame Clayton’s career has basically ended so early, he was absolutely brilliant at this level and not bad at the one above as a destroyer. Loved him.

Loved watching him and Grant every time the other team got possession dropping back and going, “Come on then, get past us.”
 
Ref posters saying we have a big squad. I believe its 23 senior squad players and 3 are keepers. Its not big to me. We should have had 25.
 
No issue with us sending Spence out on loan, the mistake was allowing Coulson to go out on loan, without having another LB lined up to come in.

Bringing in Joe Bennett would have been a very sensible signing but wasn't to be sadly.

Malley, Coburn, Sivi have been retained in the squad rather than loaned out.
They could all play, so he has a squad of 27, with a talented academy to support.

Injured players still have to be paid and count.
