Dieng

Looks solid and quite remarkable that Steffen was so valuable to us last season like our other loanees, but none of us are pining for him.
I am.
I think Steffen's calmness on the ball and distribution was better, allowing us to retain possession and take the opportunities created by the forward being out of position.
When closed down Dieng goes long too often for my money, bypassing the areas of the pitch that we've got an overload & turning it into a 50/50.

That save from Roberts was top class, in fact every single thing he did today was perfect

Still makes me laugh the QPR fans who told us he was *****
As a specialist position, what a team needs from a keeper will vary hugely. QPR play a very different game to us, and Dieng is very good on the ball, admittedly not quite as good as Steffen, but accomplished.

Today he also looked good in the air, came out of his box on the occasions he needed to and distributed well - look at how his longer passing led to chances, it wasn't simply lumping it forward. And perhaps most importantly, he doesn't seem to be prone to giving the ball away, which given the way we play is a risk.

I might be in the minority here but I consider shot stopping almost the least important part of a modern keeper's game. Unless we're playing Man City, we're only going to face a few shots on target each game. A percentage of those will be ones that any keeper should save, and a further percentage would give even the best keeper no chance. So that leaves perhaps 1 or 2 a game where a great keeper makes a difference. And yesterday, that Roberts' chance was that one....

Putting that all together, I really think we've got a gem here. Can't see what any QPR fans were thinking, unless they consider that conceding 3/4 a game where the keeper did nothing wrong is somehow the keeper's fault?!
