Did we pick the best candidate?

Absolutely we did.
To be honest, initially I was hoping for Farke but then when I properly thought about it, I realised I’d just been seduced by his lovely long locks, softly spoken German and strong chin. I soon came round to realising the one for me was really Chrissy Wilder 🥰😍

I actually think it’s a real coup for us and I’m as excited about the future as I have been in many a long year.
Well done Boro and thankyou Gibson 👏👏👏

Gerrard and Lampard would have generated a lot more newspaper lines but we'd also be referred to as Steven Gerrard's Middlesbrough or Frank Lampard's Middlesbrough constantly.

I believe Wilder will be the best of that pool for us. He's said all the right things so far. Hopefully that shows itself on the pitch and in results too.

That said Gerrard will be a success at Villa. As for Lampard at Norwich, I don't see it working out. I think the Chelsea experience may have scarred him.

I'm available. They didn't choose me. But I'm sure that Wilder will do almost as good a job as I would have.

Howe?
Wilder?
Smith?
Lampard?
Gerrard?

There’s a good argument that Boro chose the most promising managerial candidate from the available pool.
I don't think we had much chance of getting Gerrard, Howe or Smith, but equally I don't think any of those are much better than Wilder on average.

Wilder is a better choice than Lampard, but not convinced Lampard would have come this far North anyway.

So out of those I think we got the only one who we could, but more than happy with it.

Of those, I'd have possibly taken Gerrard over Wilder, but a big part of that is star power.

I genuinely think Wilder has the most impressive CV of the bunch though, bar arguably Howe as he kept Bournemouth up for longer, but there's something about him I don't like.

All about opinions of course but I've no idea why anybody would rate those above Wilder. A guy who's done it in the real world versus Gerrard for example who has managed the Mickley Mouse League.

Good players doesn't always equal good managers and I think that's where people fall down.

Take a look at the attached. Doesn't exactly cry out "amazing players"

apart from being manager of a team that beat boro in a promotion race with tactics that some think "highly dubious", being a media darling, having a smug face, and now being manager of newcastle..... I can't for the life of me think why?!

Yeah, it's just whether the big name thing, can overcome his inexperience, especially in a rock hard league like the Championship. Lets face it, the Scottish League isn't hard, it's a two horse race now that Rangers had been back in the prem for 3 years before Gerrard.

Obviously Rangers have won the league, for the first time in a while, but the thing is Gerrards time they've spent 21m on players, and Celtic have made 21m on players. 42m difference in that league, is a massive difference, and they would have been expected to win the league.

Taking a Championship club, who has been out of the Prem for a while is a task 10x harder.

Big names are all well and good, but you still can't attract big players without big wages, so the big name thing would be kind of wasted on us anyway, I think.

Personally, I like teams that try to impose themselves on the opposition, be they tikky takky like Pep's Barca or City or high energy teams like Klopp's.
If Wilder can bring his ideas and approach to fruition here then I think we'll be enjoyable to watch.
Too many mangers try to overthink the game and match or negate the opposition before a ball is kicked rather than trusting their approach and being able to adapt if it isn't working.
From what I've seen and read, Wilder and Knill will bring some identity to our football again.

It's mainly the smug face.

I liked Steve Bruce even when he was at Newcastle.

So you wouldn't have take Rafa Benitez?
I don't think that he'd have wanted to come here. My point was that Ashley has made millions from treating his staff like crap. I'd never work for the bloke and anyone who chooses to do that is showing pretty dreadful judgment.

Fair enough bumface I can get behind that.
