Did we employ a Marouane Fellaini upfront tactic with Crooks yesterday?

Wiki says Hoppe is 6.2!! Didn’t work at all for me. Crooks again looked like he was struggling to run. Personally I didn’t think Forss was tiring, though my mate thought he was. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Odd when you have Muniz and Hoppe on the bench. I'm not sure if it's a message to the pair of them. You don't know what they do in training (or don't 😂).

It definitely seemed to effect the flow of the game. I thought Forss did well (decent movement). Didn't look overly tired. Definitely more likely to get a goal than lumping Crooks up top. The very least bring Crooks into CM to increase a goal threat from that position.

The game would have been ideal for Watmore coming on for 20mins. Although he'd probably have started if it. We've signed 3 forwards for decent money yet I'm sure Watmore and Akpom are first choice. I imagine the 3 signed were ideally meant to replace them.

Was the only downside to Saturdays match , waste of a substitution, looked sluggish and stupidly gave away a free kick when he could have forced a corner or throw in late in the game. Hero to zero in less than a year.

Yes sadly unless he is physically carrying an injury his form loss is clear. If he is carrying an injury as speculated then I find it really odd that he hasn’t been sent to have it operated on and even more strange that we are putting the guy on the field.

On par with subbing a sub.

Terrible man management.
It was a bad decision ( Warnock and wilder were both guilty of it too) hopefully it was an experiment that isn’t tried again. We don’t need to hammer Carrick over it though, he’s getting a tune out of the players and the way he has people like Akpom and Hackney performing is very promising indeed.

Don’t think I have seen you give Carrick any credit since his appointment

Carrick had been watching Boro matches from last season, and heard repeatedly how Crooks scores belters all the time!
So Carrick Gave Crooks a comb and some gel during warm up and said "Do your thing".

I don’t rate the appointment. I will get behind him, but I think he is out of his depth.

It was a bad substitution and I wouldn't have made it, but it wasn't baffling. You can understand the thought process - we're struggling to get a winner, Crooks is a threat in the air, let's give them a different problem to deal with.

I don't think there was any more to it than that, no message to the other strikers or anything.

He got it wrong, surprise surprise rookie manager doesn't get every decision right. Name a manager who does.

What'll be more telling is if he keeps making the same mistakes or whether he learns from them.

Exactly. We have improved and he has us playing better than we have at any stage this season. The decision to start Forss is a bold one and for me with his pressing it is working. Very impressed so far. I don’t expect that Crooks sub to be something he does regularly. He probably knows Crooks has goals in him and we were getting crosses in so thought it was a way to a goal. No more than that.

Yep pleased to see him give Forss a run of games (particularly if Watmore is unavailable). Brentford fans rave about his finishing and I think someone put his stats up a while back which suggested the same: scores more chances than xG suggests he should.

The problem is of course does he contribute enough aside from that so that he's not a passenger? If he can sort that out, and there are promising signs, albeit early days, then there's every chance he'll score a lot of goals and should help improve our issue of missing too many easy chances.

That's the theory anyway!
