Derby County

Latest update:

A spokesperson for the joint administrators said:

"The joint administrators of Derby County Football Club are currently considering bids for the club, following deadlines set for offers at the end of last week.

"Further requests for clarity from prospective purchasers have been sought and we hope to be able to name the preferred bidder shortly.

"We are aware that everyone connected to the Club wants to see its future resolved as soon as possible.

"Our duty is to ensure we secure the best long-term outcome for Derby County and we are working hard to achieve this objective."

Admins set to meet EFL this week

"Further requests for clarity from prospective purchasers have been sought" makes it sound they are looking for the best offer from a bad bunch.

Obviously potential new owners are looking for the best deal for themselves which could mean another 15 point deduction next season, so you would imagine they are at least looking long term for their stewardship of the club.

I thought the administrators duty was to ensure the best outcome for the creditors first and foremost.

It's gone very quiet on the WWFC claim and with the debt owed to HMRC too.

What a mess that those at the top of DCFC have created.

Perhaps the EFL should have been applying more pressure in the lead up to the transfer window and during the first half of it. Now that the window's closed I can't see that the administrators are left with many options for raising cash.
The fact they didn't sell their prize assets to fund the rest of the season is mental and shouldn't be allowed in my opinion. They obviously gambled on staying up by holding on to the squad. Or that it would attract a higher bid from a buyer with the better players there. But the administration company should be focused on trying to settle debts more than gambling on the outcome of the season bringing a higher offer.

And obviously puppet master Mel is still worth £400 million isn't he. So he could solve a huge amount of issues by squaring away HMRC and Arsenal for an amount of money he wouldn't even notice he'd lost.
