Dele Alli

Anyone think he will ever get back to the ‘top’ of his game again? And maybe get himself back in the England fold at some point. Or was 2016-2017 Dele Alli as good at it gets and is he in an early decline. Something seems a miss with him but can’t work out what it is, desire maybe 🤔

It’s actually a real rarity for a player to look that good at such a young age and maintain it for their whole career. I believe a lot of players suffer from a lack of hunger sometimes, when they’re earning such huge sums at a young age.

Clearly didn’t gel with Mourinho but I think his problems started before that. I have no doubt at all he’ll get the hunger and form back at some point, but I’d be surprised if he reaches the levels of 16/17 again. Would be nice to see him play for England again but get the sense he might move to a mid-table side and probably be overlooked even if he rediscovers his form.

I’m amazed he’s missing from this squad as I just didn’t see his form nosediving like it has. He looked a shoe in 2 years ago.

Agree mate, I think if there is any truth in the poch back to Spurs rumours it will do Alli good, but if he can’t get the best out of him again then maybe we have seen the best of him already and mid table mediocrity could be his career going forward?

That’s what I’d predict, but time will tell. As an aside, I think Pocch back to Spurs would be a big mistake for both parties.

He got too interested in his brand and his football went by the wayside sadly.

I think you'll see him back to his best.

You have to say that a lot of the Spurs side went backwards under Poch then Jose anyway especially the season after the CL final.

Eriksen was already missing the season before that.

Even the great Alex Ferguson though Alli was going to be an outstanding player.

It appears he was the latest player to suffer from Mourinho's methods. It's telling that Alli was back in and around the Spurs side once Mourinho was removed.

The problem for him with England is the shift towards a front three. Where does Alli play in a 3-4-3 or 4-3-3?

He doesn't as currently there's better options with Mount, Sancho, Grealish all far better options than him atm.

It’s tough to see a way back for him but Stones and Lingard have shown it is easily done to get back in the managers thoughts. Will be interesting to see how he does next season

I don’t think he’ll ever beat that season but he can definitely recover from this season. Last season wasn’t that bad in terms of goals and assists tbh, but Mourninho ruined his confidence (there’s always one or two).

He would benefit from going somewhere else ala Lingard but can’t see Spurs losing him and Kane in the same summer.

His form had fallen off massively long before Mourinho was anywhere near the picture, so I don't think it's right to try and blame him.

He actually had a purple patch as soon as Mourinho was appointed.

Yeah I think Mourinho got a tune out of him with his stand offish approach and are you Dele Allis brother line but that type of thing only works for so long with some players and after that their relationship seems to be terrible

Speaking of Poch he has just informed the PSG board he wants his contract to be terminated.

He’ll be back to his best soon. I think maybe off fields/transfer speculation might put him off or something like that. Hopefully he’ll bounce back and play like he usually does. Good player

I liked Dele a lot, always liked how much fire and chippiness he played with - rarely see it now.

To be fair, watching him for Spurs he'd either be red hot or soo bad sometimes, think he's just one of those players who's really off when he's off.

Only 25 and was captaining MK Dons at 18 wasn't he, so a bit like Rooney, he's got some miles on the clock.

Be interesting to see if he can get back to his best at Spurs or whether he'll Lingard it with a change of scenery.

Mourinho was quite good at undermining a player's confidence, look at Luke Shaw who is proof alone that Deli can get himself back into contention.
