Defenders marking space? Not players.

Sometimes our defending really ***** me off. Players just standing goal side without any interest in where the attackers are.

Their 1st goal tonight, we have a defender standing level with the near post and a defender standing level with the far post. Neither of them moving or doing anything useful. Also, neither of them slightly concerned about the top class striker standing on the penalty spot in miles of space. No thoughts about marking him.

It’s not just us, but we’re really bad at it. Is it the players being bad or is this actually what they are coached to do?

Its one of the worst parts of playing 3 CBS they seem to leave players expecting others to pick them up. When your in a 2 you kind of know who u are marking.

It's not good enough though and we need to.tighten up. It seems like we concede that type of goal and the one where we do a **** header to the edge of the box and someone smashes it in.

It drives me mad. Defenders just seem desperate to “get in position”. Even on fast breaks we can have 5 defenders running frantically back towards the goal, completely ignoring the 1 striker standing in 10 yards of space. Just mark the player FFS.
