Decent dress watches

Citizen or Seiko would be where I would look at first for that price range. I have a Citizen eco-drive (solar powered) watch that I really like. They come in all sorts of designs.
Seconded for citizen. I have an eco drive “red arrows” edition. Really quality watches for the price point.

Dress watch; leather strap?

There's a lot of choice in the sub £1k bracket and I would recommend buying used, rather than new.

For less than £500 I'd personally be looking at Seiko, value for money wise they're difficult to beat - the Presage range are great watches to suit pretty much any taste and have a good movement for the price point.

Between £500 - £1000 I'd look at Longines, loads to choose from, very well made, good movements and great value.

Have you used this before? Are there lots of fakes on there?
I'd stick to the business sellers, rather than private sales, but if you do then make sure there's plenty of feedback.

I wouldn't buy anything without the box and papers.

Stick to that and it's a great platform.

Watches only last a few months with me before the battery dies. A year max.
Digital watches last me longer but lose about 3 minutes a month.
I'm convinced I'm draining the batteries somehow, probably something to do with my condition. I can't be the only one surely?

Ive always liked nice watches but I don't spend more than £20 on a watch any more. So I've got a boxful of smart but dead watches in good condition. I just won't through them away.

Get an automatic?

One thing I'd highly recommend is to try on the watches you're interested in. Don't just look at pictures online and order one. You need to see how it sits and feels on wrist.

I have a couple of dress watches even though I don't get dressed up as such. But they still work well with a casual look. I've got an F.P Journe Chronometer and a Seiko JDM offering. The Journe is a bit of a funny one as it became a watch that some collectors wanted. The original price was a bit under 20k in dollars which was about £12.5k at the time. The watch was in perfect condition but was pre-owned, so it's value was seen as a fair bit less. The watch was given to me and I loved it, so started to take more of an interest in watches.

Both the Journe and Seiko are unintended conversation starters on a global level. No matter where you go, you could say the right people come up and start chatting. By the right people, I mean people who are enthusiastic about watches. You'll end up talking at the bar for a couple of hours having a conversation about all sorts of different things.

In terms of a purchase, if you like minimalist design it might be worth looking at the Junghans Max Bill and variations. It might push your budget a bit but you'll possibly be able to negotiate 15-30% off. They come in both a quartz and automatic movement. Otherwise, Seiko will be worth looking at. But definitely try and negotiate something off.

I'm quite into collecting older vintage ones.

Managed to get one of these off a private seller recently for a really decent price.

Not sure if they do still but Timpsons give you a lifetime battery guarantee when you get a replacement which means you get free replacements for life. Sounds like you'd get good value out of that sort of deal.

I've got one for 2 of my watches but I can't find my card.
