Decent crowd on Saturday?

Would love 27k. I’ve said it before we can be as big as them fuc£ wits up the road. I’m sick of how passionate Mags fans are and how Sland have the best support given they have no success. We are a big club and can get big crowds. Sorry for the rant.
I’m nearly 60, and Sunderland, like Boro, have had more success than Newcastle in my lifetime, having had our names engaged on a major cup trophy.

The only trophy that Newcastle has won since I was born, was one that was set up by UEFA to help cities promote their trade fairs!
😉

Rail strike off, hopefully that boosts numbers a bit, but it's probably too late in the day for many farther flung people to change their mind.

I’ve got a substitute in my seat this Saturday as it’s a bit of a hike from Malta!
Found a decent sports bar though, so hopefully won’t miss any of the action.

Also too late for those of us who cancelled train tickets, booked coaches instead, and also booked a hotel stay because there's no coach home after the match.

Ah well, at least I get to sample the Middlesbrough nightlife.

Sunderland itself isn’t twice the size of boro, Sunderland itself is about the same size as boro. The city of Sunderland (made up of Sunderland, Washington etc) is bigger yes
Very true but we also have the local authorities areas of Stockton and Redcar & Cleveland to add to our catchment list. Which in terms of our fan base, should be unrivalled.

I think that adding up all the towns and cities in the catchments, places like Gateshead, South Shields, Blyth, Durham city, Washington and the old coal field settlements you are looking at 1 million each for Newcastle and Sunderland and about 500k for the Boro and that is reflected in the attendances.

The seasons the Boro have achieved over 30k average is an astounding success, representing a massive percentage of the catchment.

All the north east clubs are well supported, maybe Newcastle and Sunderland are big enough to have second clubs like places like Nottingham and Stoke but over the years they have never managed to sustain them beyond non league level.

I worked in Blyth for a year and its quite a big place, at the time the population was 40,000 and only had a Northern League team while it played some teams that really were just large villages like Evenwood.

N/B - probably corporates.

There are also two blocks at the bottom of the North Stand that are for visiting kids.

We have the second highest prices in the championship. We are a very well supported club, particularly when you take into consideration the towns population and the generally poor economic situation in the area - and we don’t give away tickets to fill the ground 🧐

3850 left on the site plus family section unsolds - MFC don't often release all available tickets to begin with.

My guess is around 25,500 now sold.

With Carrick and Woody in place atmosphere should be decent too. Lets hope the team perform and the Gods of Luck look down on us.

Corporates eat their prawn sandwiches and cake in the West Stand.

It's interesting how the gaps have moved around over the years. Looked to me like the South and East stands were rammed, but loads of empty seats in the bottom half of the North, and a couple of almost-empty blocks at either end of the West.
