David McCallum: NCIS and The Man from U.N.C.L.E Passes at 90

His career spanned so many decades of crime drama it’s quite unbelievable that he managed to keep so focused while being typecast. Admittedly I never watched much of him in NCIS but nonetheless what I did see was a man who defied his age. I recently watched one of his early roles in Billy Budd which was an excellent movie— even then you had the feeling he was going to be a “great”.

McCallum played the part of an RN officer in Great Escape — maybe a bit of a underwhelming performance but perhaps the cast was too strong for him to make a viable impact. Unfortunately there’s only one character left from the cast — always worth a watch even if it’s just for the music!

RIP David McCalllum — definitely one of Scotland’s finest and perhaps underrated actors.

Absolute genius of an actor, he was such a laid back man. He was a superb as Illya Kuryakin when I was a kid, The Man From U.N.C.L.E was a personal favourite, however, he brought to life Ducky in NCIS, a loveable eccentric and joyous characterisation if ever there was one.

My childhood stars from the telly seem as if they are being taken weekly from us now 😔

R.I.P. David x

Found an old Corgi "Man From UNCLE" car at me Dad's as you pushed it along the little models popped out either side to shoot at the bad guys.

RIP sir and thank you from that child.

I was a proud member of the official Man From Uncle club along with my card and gun.
Imagine walking into infants school assembly nowadays wearing a gun in a holster.

After watching Man from Uncle as a kid, I've always wondered what goes on at the back of the dry cleaners shop.
