Dave Allen BBC2 now

We are laughing at him too.

I loved watching drink and smoke while sitting in his chair in his best suit. Now of this dancing about on stage in tight jeans and plimsols and 21 year olds telling us how life is a b***ch trying to look right on social media all of the time.

It was a magic time wasn’t it ?

Dave Allen
Morcambe & Wise
d*ck Emery
Tommy Cooper
Frank Spencer
Little and Large
Des O Connor
Mike Yarwood
Rod Hull
Two Ronnie
Benny Hill
Les Dawson

Not to mention Steptoe, Porridge, Rising Damp and Only Fools etc

Magic TV that we just thought was the norm . Blimey compared to now it’s unbelievable how lucky we were

Some good stuff in there but some that would have me reaching for the remote(even before we had remotes :) ).
d*ck Emery................of his time I think. Watched him when I was younger.
Des O Connor...................Des is ok but wouldn't class him as out and out comedy.
Mike Yarwood...................even back in the day impressionists soon became boring.
Rod Hull........................Im with Billy Connelly on him.
Frank Spencer...................Even poor when I was a kid.
Little and Large.........................about as funny as Mike and Bernie Winters or Hale and Pace. Ugh! Preferred Cannon & Ball.

All the rest though are top drawer and pretty timeless.(y)

I remember watching Rising Damp and Fawlty Towers for the first time and laughing out loud for half the programme, during the day you would be looking forward to those type of programmes that evening - when does that happen with new programmes today. Catherine Tate about 20 years ago was pretty good and Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse. Little Britain and Peter Kay decent in parts but not in the same league as the better 1970s stuff.

I’d never heard of him and watched a bit of it last night out of interest. I wasn’t a fan and it seemed incredibly dated to me.

A comedian who died 16 years ago hasn't kept up to date? Shocking.
I wasn’t expecting the material to be up to date, more the style. As someone who wasn’t alive at the time it’s strange to watch.
Why am I explaining myself, I dunno.

Nonetheless, thank you. It is appreciated in the face of my apparent peevishness. Tastes change with age, of the society as much as of the audience.

Went to see him live at the Billingham Forum, I was disappointed, just seemed crude for crudeness' sake and just not funny at all. Felt let down and that I'd wasted time and money, not a patch on the telly shows.
