Data recovery from dead hard drive

The main C drive (Samsung 860 EVO SSD) on my missus desktop failed with nearly 500gb data on it. She uses it for work from home so it's essential

The computer repair shop has put a new hard drive so I can get Windows running but were unable to retrieve any data at all. Lots of data is backed up on external hard drives but the programs and work in progress are not backed up.

Looking online there are a lot of data recovery specialists but it's hard to choose which one to use so I would welcome recommendations THANKS in advance (y)

The first question is what's it worth to you? I trashed a lot of stuff on a raid and recovered a lot manually. It took a long time (weeks) but was effective and was worth the effort.

Other questions
What's the file partition?
Is there physical damage?
Has it been iver-written?
What is the format of the data?
Is there encryption?

Plenty will do no find-no fee but answering the first question is key to how much personal time or employing skilled efforts to recover.

SSD's generally don't get physical faults like the olden days so knowing why the failure occured will go a long way to working out if recovery is viable. Is it still in the machine and visible in diskmanager?

ou could spend 20 quid on a hard drive cradle and hook it up, externally, and see if you can recover data from it. It's what a data recovery company would try first.

Secondly they would use a tool to re-construct the nat table. You can buy the same tool and do it yourself. Stellar is a decent tool. Not sure how much, maybe 60 quid.

When my Lenovo tower went bang and wouldnt even power up anymore (goosed mother board) i borrowed a device that could read the data on the hard drive, it literally slotted out of the tower and plugged into the reader which was connected by a USB cable.

I was able to just copy what i needed off the drive onto my replacement PC
