Darlington United

I like the title of their book they gonna write Darlington or bust feels like round two but with the darlo club starting in a lower postion. How can they afford rent on a 25k stadium starting a fan base from scratch

Someone with money behind it prthaps, the pitch rental might not be too expensive though. Boro Rangers and Billingham Synthonia have done the same this season. If they've got enough volunteers it should be ok.

I've no idea what Mowden Park charge for pitch rental.

Craig Skelton and Simon Kasanelli (spelling? 😂) named as management team. Both Marske legends from back in the day.

Looks like it’s going well, this message is going round the day before their first game (which was due to be at the arena but switched to Fishburn due to the gig so the excuse is)

Good afternoon lads
I want to put you in the picture as to what is happening.
As all of us have suspected for a while we have unfortunately been victims of a scam and a convincing con man.
Nothing he has said has come to fruition and has been a pack of lies. So I’m afraid we as a management team are finished with him.
So I have been working on a plan B this morning as follows:
1. I have contacted the league and told them what has happened. We can look to the possibility of going back to Redcar Newmarket and I hope we can change our name back.
2. We can go back and play our games at Rye Hills after I spoke to them this morning.
3. I will have to re affiliate with the FA.
4. The league have told us it is essential that we play our first 3 fixtures while this mess is resolved.
5. I will try to get some money into the club through loyal and trusted sponsors to get us going but I’m afraid it will need monthly subs again but I think we could keep it at £15 per month minimum.
6. I will have to find a new social base because OGradys isn’t an option, but I’m confident we will be able to do that.

Basically lads that’s as much as I can say at this stage.

The alternative is that we fold the whole thing . The consequences are that the club will be heavily fined. He won’t pay any fines and so all us would be suspended until the money is paid , so you won’t be able to play in any organised football.

We in the management are wanting to see this through and we really hope you do to. I know this is a shock to all of you , but believe me the stress it has caused us as a management team is incredible as we have tried to protect you from this idiot’s delusions.

Hope your with us .
Cheers

Seems strange. This is not good and not nice to see.

Redcar Newmarket were a good team and were lured in by the promise of success. However, the players and management were also, allegedly, lured in by financial reward so my sympathy is not as strong as it could be.

Lessons should be learnt from this and the person behind the scam needs identifying to avoid it occuring again.

Nice sherts tho..

Bizarre.. I saw photos of the squad having look round the Darlington Arena only a week or so ago.

Mowden Park, the rugby club who own the stadium must have been duped too.

What is it with Darlington and football teams? Surely the original Darlington FC at the Arena with all the social media design gubbins would be a step in the right direction.

Darlo will never fill a 25k stadium not for any football team, not for any rugby team or indeed any other sport. The town is growing but is still under 100k population. That would mean that 1 in 4 of the total population from baby to granny would have to hove up at the Arena. And then you have the problem of a lot of the locals "supporting" NUFC, the north bound platform at the railway station before a mags home game is like a traffic jam on the Serengeti. The local football team has never had a pull from surrounding areas which tend to be either Boro, Sunlun, NUFC or L**ds.

This nonsense was always going to end in tears. Didn't think it would collapse so quickly though.

It's a rugby town and lots of part time football supporters.. if the stadium was sorted and a few teams amalgamated.. it would be a worthwhile venture.

George Reynolds has a lot to answer for.. but the council could to more to alleviate the issue regarding the planning permission. what would be needed to allow 25k fans into that ground?

The Chairman/CEO of Darlington FC is looking to build a new stadium, after ruling out a return to The Arena, because the maintenance costs would be astronomical in relation to their income.

George Reynolds cut a boat load of corners to construct that monument to his ego. It's rumoured that the stadium was built using non-galvanised steel, cheaper, but far more prone to corrosion.

I believe that the stadium could host 25k if that many turned up. The point is they never will no amount of amalgamations or other manoeuvring will change that simple fact. The only thing that will happen in about ten years time is they will knock it down and build houses there. The railway line was supposed to be the limit of the town when the stadium was built but houses are going up over the road from the folly now. The clock is ticking for that structure

It seemed ridiculous, and either a fantasist or someone who really had a lot of money that they wanted to get rid of. Turns out that it was the former, and the players didn't even get to play in a 25,000 seater stadium before it all fell apart. I'll admit, as much as I thought it would fall apart, I was considering heading up to that first game out of curiosity.

Wonder what's going to happen with some of the players that have joined them from higher levels.

I don't think it can. I'm pretty sure the ground has only ever had permission to host 10k max.

I thought that was sorted out for Elton John when he played there?

Moot point anyway as there just aren't enough interested people to fill it. As to how do Mowden Park afford it, simply they can't. Sooner or later there will be some big bills for maintenance and that will be that.
