Dairy Milk move production back to Bourneville from Germany

No new jobs but good news for the 40 seasonal workers that will now be working full time.

I would guess chocolate consumption at home has increased a fair bit during lockdown.

I hope so, we did a tour of the B'ham factory with the kids some years ago and I was shocked to see how desolate and empty it was

Whereas, I prefer dairy milk to any other chocolate. Mind you, I haven’t the most discerning palate.

It also creates jobs with UK suppliers and contractors in a small way.

I visited Bournville every year from 1999 to 2017 on student education trips and every year you could see the production there dropping and hear about new factories opening up outside the UK. I thought Cadbury's was a great Brirish company, but it was slowly withdrawing from the UK. Its good to see the trend has been stopped.

It is American. Its owned by the multinational conglomerate Mondelez International which is the old Kraft Foods snacks company. The foodstuff company of Kraft was acquired by Heinz. Whilst the increase in production capacity at the Bourneville factory will not create extra jobs the part time seasonal workers will be able to go full time.

And this would be even better news if Mondelez confirmed they would be paying UK Corporation tax. They attracted some controversy when they weren't some years ago.

StOp TaLkInG BrItAiN DoWn! If you don't like it here, leave (I mean you can't, we voted against that) but.... chocolate with a union jack on it, yeah?

Kraft only bought it in 2010 for 200 years it was 100% British. It was a excellent employer and gave a lot of money to charity and paid a lot of tax.
