If anything, it's as much a parody as a comedy.
Ever watched Fawlty Towers?
 
I struggle to find the same quality of humour today - I liked Fleabag, the Peter Kay stuff, Paul Whitehouse, Catherine Tate, Citizen Khan, but struggled a bit after that. I never got into Gavin and Stacy, bits of Royal Family, Little Britain, Mrs Browns boys but its not what I call Comedy Gold such as .

Didn't mean offensive just that I don't think the type of humour would go down well with younger people .

Agree with most of them but Liver Birds hasn’t aged well at all when I saw a repeat recently. But add to that list Whatever Happened to the Likely Lads, Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Blackadder and Rise and Fall of Reginald Perrin. Also if it wasn’t for the stereotypical racial references It Ain’t Half Hot Mum and the lampooning of racism in Til Death Us Do Part probably deny us the opportunity to watch repeats of some very clever situation comedy.

Exactly. I've always enjoyed it for as long as I can remember. I'm still "only" 43.

I think most of the humour has aged very well. Particularly the interaction between Mainwaring and Wilson, which is genius and perfectly acted.
 
there is good new comedy however there are so many more channels & they have to fill them with something - & it can be very weak.
I'm really liking What We Do in the Shadows - on Disney+ I think, maybe Amazon & was / is on iPlayer, series 5..
 
The Mainwaring/Wilson relationship was brilliantly written and acted. Both actors could get a laugh with a well timed "look", without saying a word. The pompous and asprational vs the genuinely classy and modest .... great British stereotypes. John Le Mesurier was genius.

I agree its quite interesting this info. As I say to our young uns, "we went to the moon" and invented the internet etc etc etc etc. "Yous lot got rid of spangles, screwballs and moaned a lot. The Boomers are a hell of a bunch. 🚀

Totally agree with those comments they were chalk and cheese, but it worked.

I remember an early episode and there were talking about WW1 - Wilson said he had been an officer in a prestigious regiment, survived several years in the trenches, received a gallantry medal. None of that came up ever again, because Mainwaring was so embarassed by what little he had done in comparison and Wilson wanted an easy life as a number 2 so he kept quiet.

It did. Wilson wore his WW1 uniform in one of the last episodes. He was a Captain which I think we can all agree is very prestigious.
 
One of the BBC bigwigs said (words to the effect) 'when they (Perry and Croft) were pitching it to us, I would never have thought that Arthur Lowe would be the officer and Le Mesurier the sergeant. Genius.
Anyone who is offended by Dads Army, though, should avoid 'It Aint Half Hot, Mum'. IIRC one episode featured the dead bodies of Japanese soldiers!

The TV Show was inconsistent. The TV show threw at us a multitude of ideas many of which didn’t work. However the ones we can recall and love, and there were many, were pure genius.
