On me jollys at the moment and been doing a bit of cycling in between usual enjoyable stuff.
After a few days I decided to set myself a little challenge for the 2 weeks I’m out here.
Finally completed it, with a day to spare - I’ve done 579kms and, more importantly, just before 11.00 this morning had climbed the landmark..........8848m.

😇

It’s a bit soul destroying to know the pros do their ‘Everest challenge’ in a day ;)

Erimus if you want to join the Everest club...
All you have to do is go up Carlton Bank 43.7 times
Sounds easier said than done
I use to do Charlton bank, infact the last time I did it was earlier this year & it was hard, I'm certainly not as fit as I once was, the 1st time I cycled up was the 1st time I could hear myself breathing heavy

What area of France you been cycling in finny ?

Smog
South West France - Revel is closest Town. I’m in a spot at the top of hill - there are two ways back and they are both pretty tough.
But, its chuffin gorgeous

Back Sunday morning (hopefully pre quarantine requirements)

i started cycling on my bike again, trying to do a quick blast 8-10 miles before working from home for the day. Took advantage of the early morning being quiet for traffic but saw it building up recently. Had not ridden the bike for possibly close to ten years, have let it slide for a couple of weeks need to get back on again. But god i feel old on it

No truck, you'll soon get back in to it, I go out & cycle 20 - 40 miles then home, that's enough

Watched the one show last night, when they were talking about Liverpool introducing new cycle lanes, which is a great idea, but the lad talking & cycling had all the wrong gear on, he was riding a bike wearing a pair of boots FHS

Just stick with it truck. I ride with a guy who is 61 and has more than double my mileage this year (>10,000km) ... it's a state of mind, start small, build slowly, you'll get there.
....and if you're lacking motivation, go buy some new gadget for the bike ;)

Thanks lads, i have a simple loop where slight route changes make it 3 miles or 4 miles, with only about 3/4 mile on the a689 which is busy. I keep thinking every time i ride how much better it would be with an engine :) which takes me back 40 years and motorcycling. Gym is re-opening so it will be mixing gym and bike

That's not the wrong gear, any gear is the right gear for cycling. Sure it may be easier in a pair of £400 quid Bonts and a skinsuit, but the bike is a versatile thing and can be ridden in many different ways.

That's what scares many people off cycling - fear of not doing it right and having the right gear. Look at the Dutch or the Danish - they cycle in suits, heels, absolutely anything, and the bike is a essential part of their culture.

Have you tried looking at Strava heat maps or similar for an alternative route if you're not keen on the A689? Might not help but you may find an alternative route with less traffic.
