Crooks

Is it me or does he look like he’s treading water after 25 mins, in the 2nd half he didn’t even look like he had the energy to kick the ball 5 yards, he looks knackered all the time.
I wouldn’t mind if he was going from box to box but he doesn’t even do that.
Something is wrong if he looks wrecked after 25 mins.

He was woeful last night as you say half a yard too slow and not really with it.

The midfield is a huge problem at the moment. It's as unbalanced as I can remember.

We don't have any defensive midfielders which limits Crooks ability to get forward. That said, I do think Luongo starts soon enough which will address balance somewhat.

I think it will eventually be Howson, Luongo, McGree with two up top.

This article came to mind - he had a reputation for incredible endurance and this time last year I would agree. Just felt that halfway through last spring his tank emptied and it hasn't filled back up again

Really poor last night. He genuinely looked like he had just rolled out of bed after a big Saturday night for a local Sunday morning game. His touch and control were terrible. He lost possession far too often and him McNair and Jones on the right leave us wide open and is now the area opposition are targeting. Crooks looks completely lost as though he doesn’t know what he is supposed to be doing which leaves us a man down and struggling.

I don't know where he was supposed to be playing last night. At times he was sitting deeper than Howson, and not just to cover Jonny's forward runs. That must have been under instruction as it's not like him.

If you look at Cardiff's first goal IT was staRted with poor play by Matty Crooks giving the ball away in his own half. That was in the 4th minute he can't have been tired then. He is a great danger in opposition boxes, but limited to me in overall play. Possibly hes been told to challenge less to cut down the yellow cards. Just felt not sharp enough as though he only wakes up near opposition's goal.

could it be covid related?

When he was warming up he was adjusting what appeared to be some sort of compression belt around his pelvic area.

I'm not so sure he isnt carrying some sort of issue. Would certainly explain his poor form?

Its not just recently Hes been like this for a long time. His best role is set pieces in the box. Other than that not really a footballer. Should have been replaced in the window.

I dont know where these belters are that he scores all the time. That song seriously needs rewriting

Even last season, if you were to rate his attributes out of 10 you probably wouldn’t score him above 7 in any area. Mobility, speed, tackling, passing, winning headers, goals/assists.

He’s pretty average at everything, but somehow looked more impressive than this last year. He used to be involved in the build up to goals last year, often linking up with Jones who would get the assist. Now that partnership isn’t flourishing as much and he doesn’t have those goal involvements he just looks like your average bottom half of the Championship CM

He's an enigma. On one hand I feel he has to start due to his goalscoring record whilst he's been here, but his overall performance is usually poor.

He looked so slow the other night and half-ar*ed. At one point the ball was played to him and he tried to flick it out to the right side without even looking to see if anyone was there.

Can’t you all see the fcuking obvious !!!!!

They aren’t playing for wilder
It’s clear as day and yet you all try and figure out what is happening but he has lost the players
Plain and simp
I wouldn’t say they aren’t playing for Wilder. They simply aren’t good enough. All 3 midfielders had a part to blame in each goal. Disposed or lack of pace.
We simply get overrun and both Crooks & Mowatt have absolutely no pace to recover. We miss Tavernier because of his work rate.
To say crooks is carrying an injury as one Orr’s in posted is laughable. Has he carried this since he signed. If it wasn’t for his goals he would be slagged off similar to Mowatt.
Both are not good enough in this system and will cause a lot of problems.
Teams just need a bit of pace and play between the wing backs and slow central defenders.
The system wilder has may work but you need players who can recover their positions. Simply put we don’t have them.
Crooks is one of many problems we currently have.

At Watford whilst the team generally played ok Crooks for me was the weak link. Utterly laborious, too slow, hesitant and ponderous are adjectives that come to mind. So personally think he should be benched. Who do I replace him with though I’ve no idea.

That’s the problem our dealings in the transfer window were poor. Letting Payero and Tavernier go without any real replacement. Won’t even consider Mowatt
