Crimea Ammo dump explosion

Ukraine taking it to them, second in the area. I think the Ukraine plan was to destroy the bridge between Crimea and Russia in an effort to trap the Russian Army. Plenty of Russian tourists down there as well by the looks of it.

It's interesting. Ukraine has been very careful not to launch any official attacks into actual Russian territory. There looks to have been some sabotage going on in Russia around power plants and the like, but all deniable so far.

I don't know if Ukraine had given up on Crimea, given it seemed to have a majority of its residents that were Russian and appeared happy to join the Russian state. Officially, I don't think they had but privately they might have accepted it was now lost so it was more a negotiating point to end the conflict.

Russia though, I'm pretty sure Russia had already become used to Crimea now being a part of Russia. So actually this is a perfect way to wage war inside Russia while not. With the added bonus of impacting Russian tourists and spreading the reality of what is going on to the ordinary Russian population.

Younger Russians have a much idea on what is going on but the old stalwarts still wear blinkers and will not talk on camera about the special operations.

Yes, they seem to. The propaganda war is still very much in the balance.

I believe that there is an agreement that Ukraine can not use ours and USAs missle systems to attack within Russia.
Therefore Crimea is a perfect target, particularly if it has an affect on air cover.

I would think that Crimea could be part of an eventual negotiated peace. Unlike The Donbas there is a historical rationale for saying that Crimea is "Russian" it having been allocated to Ukraine in Soviet times as it made a logical part of Ukraine for administrative purposes and whilst it was all part of the USSR that was merely a case of different bureaucrats checking on the same five year plan enacting the same laws etc.

Striking assets within Crimea degrades the Russian ability to protect the Black Sea Fleet and to attack from the south. I don't think that the Ukraine has the ability to hit the bridge but these actions do reinforce their attempts to retake Kherson.

Russia is now having to put most of its resources into defending Crimea, which it has some legitimate historical claim to. They are running out of the necessary materials and troops to conduct an offensive war. I think they will abandon much of what they have taken in the east of Ukraine in order to defend Crimea. In Kherson, the Russian troops have been abandoned and have taken to stealing childrens' pool inflatables to get them across the river. Airbases have been hit. Wagner HQ too. Russian generals are getting themselves to safety. On the flip side, this is likely where the Ukrainians get nasty.

It's surreal that there are Russian holiday makers in the area. Do they even know there's a war?
A few years ago, I had a winter holiday in Egypt, there were plenty of germans and russians, who hated each other.

The russians were proper rough and looked as though they could take on the rest of the hotel. All carried muscle, attitude and tattoos and I am sure they were carrying knives in their swimming costumes. The blokes seemed hard too, but spent too much time marching up and down the beach.

Ukrainians are in their own country - including Crimea which is ONE HUNDRED PER CENT part of Ukraine. They are not being nasty - and anything they do in their own country against invaders is attempting liberation, not nastiness.
The nastiness is the dictator's army invading - who have NO RIGHT to be in ANY part of Ukraine - INCLUDING CRIMEA.

Having said all that I don't think Ukraine are getting Crimea or Donbass back any time soon. Russia are still slowly advancing in Donetsk - having taken all of Luhansk

Think crimea would be the last place they look to liberate , in my opinion .

It will be to cut off supply to Kherson I reckon

Some history reading required. Crimea is complicated. And what I mean by they are about to get nasty is that they will start to have the upper hand. They are already killing Russians that could be captured and the same fate awaits those in Kherson that tey consider to be traitors. It won't be pretty. Not saying that they are wrong, just that war is unpleasant.
