Cricket great test for stokes new look England - India

In days gone by I think back to some of the targets set by England and if we had set 378 for a team to get there would have been a lot of people, including many pundits, saying it was overkill, that the opposition had been batted out of the game long ago.

Now, particularly with this England team, it feels like advantage India, but still a game that is very much in the balance.

Lets hope the openers can take the shine off the ball and hang around a while.

Think India were happy to just give themselves 3 and a bit sessions to bowl England out, failing to do that has given England a chance they probably shouldn't have had.

The rate at which we score now in the 1st innings means higher chases are possible, as there is so much time still left in the game.

Still about 150 overs left or something!

Nice start. From looking much harder than one of the NZ chases (which it still is), at least now the numbers are within the same ballpark as what they've already done this summer. Which would also be true if both of these two get out now, so all runs feel like a bonus at the minute.

I think it's now beyond debate that limited overs cricket has transformed the way tests are played. It's still got the time and mental pressures playing on batsmen that make tests such a challenge, but the shotmaking has definitely wrested some of the advantage from the bowlers.
Anyone have any stats on the average number of maidens bowled in tests now?
