Covo 3 - 4 Boro:

As an aside David Smith, the tricky Cov winger who supplied three assists is now the Commercial Manager at Grimsby Town. His career was spent around the West Midlands at Birmingham and West Brom before he ended up on the East coast as a player. When he retired became a car showroom salesman before getting a marketing job at Grimsby.
Strange how life takes you to unknown destinies.

david speedy kept the match ball because he scored his hatrick first.
outside the ground was a road called mowbray street and someone had sprayed on the street sign sir tony

Loved that game, was in the seats on the side with West Midlands finest telling people to sit down or they’d be arrested each time we scored.

We absolutely tore them to shreds for an hour, then once they scored their second we couldn’t stop crosses coming in then were beaten in the air by a hobbit. Rippers was unplayable, Burke had his best game for us and you’d be hard pushed to find a better quality hat trick, all fantastic movement and superb finishes.

Looking at that game, the way we started life in the top flight, the exciting footall we played, the enthusiasm throughout the team, the positivity throughout the team & Town following liquidation, there was no way we will be involved in a relegation battle, unbelievable
