Covid testing in this country - my experience

I was also randomly selected for an NHS test. I actually ignored the first letter as it said it was 'optional'.

Then a week later received another one with red writing on the top. I hung it on my board as I had another 5 days to do it. The next thing I got a fecking text.... Talk about pushy for a test thats 'optional'.

I did it and sent it off. It came back negative and from swab to collection and results about 6 days. I would have preferred the test to see if you've had it in the past.

I was so ill for 2 weeks in Feb with a 'cold' that I'm convinced I've had it. I guess I'll never know.

Yes I thought it was going to be that as well it would have made more sense I’d have thought.

as what does me possibly having it a week ago or not really mean ???
I would think if your test was positive you would have heard by now.

The ONS studies are all about prevalence in society. They are not testing you specifically to provide you with the information or to manage societal virus outbreaks.

There are antibody testing studies that you can sign up to https://ucl-virus-watch.net/ I believe this study provides 6 monthly antibody testing to some participants and other testing as part of the study.

I have been involved in testing and tested a few times now through work/ research and as part of routine swabbing. Turn around of results varies with postal taking 3-5 days and drive through taking 24-48 hours generally. Fastest was an antibody test with blood taken at 1pm and 3am a text coming through reporting the results.

He would have been pre selected , he wouldn't have "went for a test"
You can't just volunteer to take part

No he told me he went for a test as he is nosey. It was either then or later he was selected. He told me about first test before he mentioned he was getting follow up tests. This was in Redcar. Maybe its different depending on who is carrying out tests and where.

If hes getting vouchers from ONS then its a random selection its across the country and its around 30,000 people going up to 150,000

I was randomly selected to take part in covid testing so in order to “do my bit” I agreed to complete the test ( it was the swab test).

so It arrived last week and I did it as instructed as soon as I could sort out a courier to collect it.

this was last Friday as they advise that you do the test before 8am and only on the day of your collection, so I did it and off it went and it’s been almost a week and I’ve still not had any further contact no result no nothing so what was the point.

to think how much that all cost and then to have nothing to show for it ( personally) showed me just what a shambles this govt is doing controlling this disease.

anyone else had similar experience ?
Did they give you an actual time line for the results?

Had minor symptoms for the last few days, tried 6 times to book a test online over the last few days but the website kept saying nothing available. Nearest test site is over 20 miles away. Luckily I work from home so can isolate anyway but for the people who have to go into work, would they be expected to take sick leave for a minor temperature whilst waiting indefinitely for a test? or what about those who dont drive?

Starting to see why this is spreading so easily, how many people just wont bother with a test if its this difficult?

Wait there... are people getting asked to randomly test via post? I never knew this was a thing.....

Or is it in certain areas only?

Slight tangent
Chap in London requested a test yesterday
Nearest sit was .....

Inverness

I was randomly selected for a home trial test (swab and saliva sample). They said I'd get my result within a week but I got it in 48 hours by text and letter.

My dad booked a test yesterday. Went to the one at Newport Community Hub yesterday just before 4pm and had his test results back by 10am this morning. So at least for him - the service worked exactly how it was supposed to.
