Covid: No plans for October lockdown, says government

So that means we'll be having one then?

This really annoys me - it's like everything this Government touches - mess it up and then take action that should have been done in the first place to resolve it.

I'm fortunate that the lockdown won't really affect me but we surely can't going back to lockdowns now most of us are vaccinated? I despair. I really feel for those who will be affected.

If hospitalisation levels continue increasing I don’t really see any other option, NHS will be stretched again even without Covid

So we lockdown every time the NHS gets busy?
Or we could endeavour to drive down case numbers by other methods such as masking and social distancing so that we reach the point where we can effectively track, trace and isolate those with Covid.
As it is, regardless of the numbers vaccinated, the 200k plus cases a week will inevitably lead to hospitalisations and make the chances of breakthrough cases in the vaccinated higher.
We have to learn to live with Covid, but that needs us to stop it spreading. Since the so-called 'Freedom Day' there has definitely been an impression that we can just go back to normal and Covid will magically go away. Mask wearing in shops and such is definitely on the decline. Of the dozen or so people waiting to go into IKEA this morning, I was the only one who used the hand sanitizer and one of the very few to actually wear a mask. I see similar on my weekly trip to the supermarket and it's why I am predicting that we'll be no better off by the end of winter in terms of driving infection numbers down.
If we want to avoid the threat of lockdowns then we need to do something.

This (y)

I've been saying for weeks that the morons wandering around without masks, social distancing and basic hygiene will be the ones shouting and whining the loudest when restrictions are tightened later in the year.

A tiny inconvenience now may save a much larger one later.

All of this and in addition we could restrict the social freedoms of those who choose not to be vaccinated.

Remember when Johnson used to trot out the promise that the vaccine was our way out of this.

If the current vaccines can't deal with the spread of the Delta variant then what the hell is he doing about it?

Not to mention that removing restrictions at a time when we didn't have a critical mass of vaccination created the environment for variants to thrive.....

It's almost as though he is an incompetent chancer.

other issue is that those who had the vaccine early are now losing protection, about 20% less protected, so really need boosters

For those who can’t or those that the vaccine won’t be as effective for them?
The government aren't going to be able to successfully implement another lockdown after they (and many on here) told us all that vaccination is the end game.

I for one won't be taking any notice of any potential lockdown. I've done my part, worn the masks, had months and months off of work, socially distanced, my kids have missed crucial parts of growing up, and all my family have been fully vaccinated.
