Covid: 400-person wedding party in Stamford Hill broken up by police

Madness isn't it?
It's like the 9 coppers who were fined the other day for sitting down in a cafe and having a coffee.

Its ridiculous isnt it. What are these people thinking?

Me me me thats all they care about.

400 isnt really a 'small minority' as one guy on the news was trying to excuse it.

Yet only 5 fined. Oh and they are thinking of fining the venue 10k

I would take the names of the feckers and if any catch covid simply refuse treatment..... Harsh but fair😉

I would fine the venue without a doubt, they are as much , if not more to blame

TBF to the 9 police... sat in a cafe - wrong thing to do - however, they'd have been sat in their 2 vans & one car (photo: parked outside) if not in the cafe. Right to fine them though chalk & cheese to compare to 400 zealots at a wedding..

Charedi Wedding in Stamford Hill.
Remember reading an article during 1st lockdown about this area of London having extremely high rates of COVID.
I wonder why.

This just goes to prove that the current system of fines and their enforcement are totally inadequate. Share the cost of the fine, £25 each, less than the cost of ticket to see football.

The fines system needs strengthening so that each of the 400 guests is fined at least £1,000 and the venue £100,000. That might be a bit more of a deterrent.

Where does the money from the fines go?

People will just refuse to pay the fine surely? What happens then?

Need another strategy beyond using fines as a punishment, they only affect the poor and not the rich.

I presume all those involved will not getting presents and congratulations from the local community right now.

I feel for the Health service having to pick up the pieces of activities like this. Virus transmission isn't intentional, and people pick it up often through no fault of their own. It happens.

It makes me angry that these people knowingly met up in a time of high risk in such a massive group. I hope that they were all clear, and this doesn't burden the local community further going forwards.

Read this this morning and it really angered me. Based on what I heard on the news today of 1-35 having it in London atm, at least 10 guests would be positive.

how many will now get it, and how many people in the wider community will now suffer due to those attending testing positive and spreading it further.

Exactly - someone pointed out that if the only deterrent is a small fine, then you're effectively making laws just for poor people.

If anyone bothers to test the fines with legal action they will fall apart. That, I would guess, is why the fines are quite small. They are, probably, not enforceable.
