Councils to be told to sell their assets

Thatcherism is alive and well. Sell the lot. Contract everything out. Bring on the streamlined, super efficient services that ensures that the taxpayers get the best service available.
Whats not to like. Selling all council houses was fantastic and has lead to millions of affordable, well maintained homes. The rail service is a credit to the country. The water companies keep our waterways clear and clean. The energy companies provide cheap, sustainable power without lining the pockets of foreign shareholders. All the profits are reinvested into the system to ensure a well paid, unionised, happy workforce and infrastructure is maintained to high levels.
That's how all this works, isnt it?

I can't wait to get myself into care or jail, some awesome privatisation in those sectors.

A happy nation of house owning shareholders. Thatcher's promise of the fruits of neo-conservatism.

Yep loads of Tory toffs standing by, ready to pick up valuable public owned assets at bargain basement prices.

I would call for such activity to be investigated and CPO's handed out to return them to their rightful owners.

Just fund them properly instead of selling our buildings, offices and goodness knows what else.
I still haven't got a penny from all the other stuff that we used to own that they sold off.
Why not sell all their assets, I mean, the government sold all theirs (railways, waterworks, electricity companies, BT, etc.) and that seems to be working out for them. I wonder if they have a friend who is interested in taking them off the council's hands.

Just when you think they can't do any more damage.

I fully expect the next budget to be the biggest giveaway this country has ever seen. Enough to financially cripple us for a generation.

All to sabotage Labour.

We've been told and expected to sell our towns assets since 2010. The Tories have attacked councils by slashing the budgets, many of them are the last fragment of a proper civil society, which the Tories hate. Middlesbrough's budget has been slashed by 46% since 2010.

Then what happens is the councils have nothing left and no other means of generating revenue.
Councils do have to do things differently, we are in a cost of living crisis and councils have to accept that we all have to live within our means. Sadly this means councils will do less, the problem is councils are now just an arm of the government as not many councils have the ability to do much more than the statuary duties that the government of the day demands we have to do.
